I am worried already with our head coacj. He never mentions the offense other then the QB, he acts like its all in place and Brian has it all covered. Dude, did you see our games? Maybe you need to see that this team has no short yardage offense on the ground and runs a shotgun on 3rd & 1 and that your 2 top WR's can not get open unless the secondary is ordinary. I can see it now, 2010 off season, Jet coach is going to pay more attention to offense, he's the head coach, not a coordintor and he needs to fix the 28th rated offense. We need new Wr's and someome better tell Schotty that on 3rd & 1 you put your short yardage offense in, that's if we have one. Sorry, its all not good.

we scored the 3rd most points in franchise history, and i think 3rd in the nfl, i doubt we should be worried now that favre is gone and his interceptions/dumb decisions

I'm not sure what you want him to say about the offense but in one of his interviews I listened to yesterday when he spoke about the offense he mentioned pretty much every position. He said he thinks we have one of the better offensive lines in the game and that's a great start. Praised Leon and TJ, and mentioned the receivers as well. He's also been quoted as saying he wants to run the ball more.

The O wasn't as good as those #s indicate as we scored a ton of points on D and STs. We have the pieces in place to have a good O as long as we get decent QB play.

def true, and i was amazed with performances such at seattle w/ 3 pts against a terrible defense, but im not worried about our offense, and i have hope for ratliff, clowney, and stuckey getting our passing game going

Our offense ranked 16th overall and 9th overall in the league in scoring, it would have been a lot better had Favre's arm not tanked in the last 5 games of the season because of the bicep tear and Mangini did not know how to call a game.

We are fine on offense, but you have to remember this will not be a WCO, we will run, run, run and then run some more. Our QB only needs to be serviceable.

My main concern is shoring up our D.

I think the major problem with the O last year was the play calling and QB play.
If they focus on the running game and Clemens or Ratliff are able to play a smart game I don't think the O will be a problem.

ATL, I know you said you were from Co-Op. What section did you live in?

Bingo. Shottenheimer will be gone next year, but not because we run him out of town...he will get a head coaching job based on how well his offense performs, especially with a young QB at the helm.

You will see a return to the inventiveness and daring of 2006 before Mangini shackled him to the same suicide machine he handcuffed the defense with.

Numbers can be deceiving. Take away the Arizona game and look at our stats. Our Wr's can be shutdown and we have a lous short yardage offense. To me, based on his comments, he thinks that the offense is in place and the defense is a couple of players short. To me, we need a couple of starters on offense also. That was my point.

The Jets certainly need another good receiver. Frankly I am not sure what the fix is for short yardage rushing. It seemed many times like the OL was not getting holes opened.

Shotty was forced on Rex and is well thought of by his boss. Shot has an opportunity to prove himself or be road kill. Rex knows that this is a tough schedule and he is going to make sure the D is stellar. If the O fails it's on Tanny and Shot and Rex gets a little more control. If the O does great and the Jets compete because we are a well balanced team Rex is a team player. All good for Rex Ryan and I like the approach.

I don't believe this business about Schottenheimer being forced on Rex. Why wouldn't he want to keep the same offense in place when he's a defensive minded coach? What evidence is there to suggest Rex had his hands tied with Schottenheimer? Wasn't he part of the attempt to keep him on board? If he REALLY didn't want Schotty I'm sure he could have figured out a way to scare him off without blatantly telling him he didn't want him.

I am high on the Ryan pick, but the reality is he has little background in coaching offense. The party line is last year's falling short was primarily Mangini's responsibility. That being the case, Ryan had, with one possible exception, no reason to want to get rid of Schott. Ryan has come to the Jets having the first priority of revamping the D, and that will be his main focus. During the upcoming year he will also have the opportunity to see how the O is run.

The one concern I have is that, as you point out, Ryan seemed to make moves to keep Schott here, but AFTER they met, when they presumably discussed the Qb situation. I think Schott should have been able to tell Ryan what they have on the roster, and what plan to follow. I am not sure what that plan is, although the apparent indication that they intend to stick with the roster inspires confidence in the outcome of that discussion.

I am actually confident one of the Young Guys can do well next year. As long as the provide a good running game whoever is behind center should be fine.

Shotty is Tannenbaums man and it was leeked all over to see if it would fly. In the current PSL environment it didn't and that's the reason Ryan is the HC. If Shotty is successful he walks anyway with a HC job somewhere else. If he isn't it's Tannenbaums mess.

Shottenheime is Tanny's boy and was forced on Rex, Rex is smart enough to build a great D and let the chips fall a year or two from now. Shotty is gone if he succeeds or fails, no need for Rex to push him out and he did the smart thing by not pushing him out.

This doesn't worry me at all. I think Rex is sticking to what he knows and letting Schotty run the Offense. Just relax, we'll be ok.

I used to think that Tanny was in Mangini's corner. He was, until he had to make a move. Then he made it. Even if Woody insisted on that, Tanny handled it in a way that seems to have met with Woody's approval.

The point is that Tanny may well like Schott, just like he used to like Mangini. But he's not going to do something that ruins his own chances of keeping his job.

I also completely agree with the second half of your last paragraph, but you mixed in there the forced on Ryan thing, which I don't see in all this.

    I love it lol!

Our Offense really faded down the final 5 games. So did our defense. The proble lies in how much of it was Farve's injury, How much Magini's lack of in game adjustments, how much Shotty's play calling, How much blame goes to Bob Suttons bland 34 scheme? I like most of the parts we have in place on offense. We could use another WR. We have an unproven QB situation. I think there are guys on the roster that deserve more of a look. Stucky and Clowny on the WR front. Clemens and Ratliff look to be getting thier big chance this year. Now that we have a O-line and running game they need to show that they can produce at this level or its time to go elsewhere.
