When Bradway spent TWO 1st round picks and jumped up for a guy who became the Combine sensation and Bradway admitted he needed to make a splash after losing som eplayers, He put DROB on some incredible pedastal where he will be talked about for generations. My quote at the times - Was "You better be willing to give up your first born on this guy being an absolute HOF stud when you make a trade like that"
Well, IMO, DRob never lived up to where he was drafted; that's for sure. Gholston is on track to more than eclipse DRob's lack of contribution and that is even more troubling.
It would be impossible. It's one thing to draft at 6 - the concensus pick. The guy who actually had the numbers in college and was targeted as a top draft pick all season... It's quite another to admit you're pulling something ou tof your ass due to public perception and needing to "make a splash" you trade TWO 1st round picks for a guy who wasn't a 1st round prospect much of the year and the all of a sudden vaulted to the top of the draft after looking good in shorts.... I didn't want Gholston.... BUT, I can't fault a franchise for taking a guy that was high on every board... Just like I didn't want D'Brickashaw - I won't fault a franchise for picking guys like this. It's when you try to make a splash and trade multiple picks where you really lay your ass on the line and have to GUARANTEE that guy is ALL WORLD.... I wish VG all the best, again I didn't want him but, he will NEVER compare to DROB in my book. NEVER.
Guy was useless. I hate playing the "what if" game but those picks we gave up could have been Troy Polamalu and Dallas Clark. It really hurts when you think about how much talent Bradway left on the board to get this guy.
There were plenty of bad moves during the Hermtite Badway era, but with the benefit of hindsight it's hard to think of a worse one that what they did to get D-Rob.
Point taken. I too want VG to pan out; Please. I think currently, it is a source for worry, though. Hopefully, Rex will inject life into the young man.
the thing that gets me the most is....... "Can't nobody block me"...... you folks realize this genius has "earned" more money than most of the semi-intelligent people on this board - including me - at an age where most are just beginning to fill the IRA. jil
For all who have short memories remember he was drafted with a bum knee as well which I am sure from time to time had to affect his play as well
I remember reading his HS coach in Kentucky found him sitting on his front porch and had to convince him to play football. That always made me wonder how much he wanted to play.
My only memory of D-Rob... We used a top 5 pick in the draft to select him when Kevin Williams was still on the board. Almost 6 yrs later, D-Rob is history and Williams is a 4 time ALL PRO...Ouch!
HAHA, that's hilarious. Just imagine if we win something big again. There will be 1000 threads on how the Jets 'didn't deserve to win so what good is it'.
Any time you use a top 5 pick there are going to be guys who go later that do well. Unless the whole draft tanks it, it's inevitable.
Obviously, however that wasn't the case here. Williams was a consensus top 10 talent on all boards. It's not like he was some unknown that the Vikings drafted. He went 6 picks after D-rob. Another draft day disgrace by the Jets FO.
Absolutely... no pleasing Jets fans. I would readily expect Champ's counter to rollover hours later, "It's been 6 and a half hours since Woody brought home a championship." EDIT: Offseason sucks!!
HAH, six and a half hours...!   Yeah, the offseason; but the on-season wasn't so very great the last weeks of the latest Jets debacle that was 2008.
Yeah, for years the Terry Boobway defenders insisted that Drob WILL make the pro bowl (for the jets) NEXT season. Just wait and see, he'll learn how to use his hands (to count money), and he will adjust to the pro game (at the meal table).
