Players Released or not resigned Eric Barton David Barrett Mike Nugent Eric Smith Bubba Franks Ty Law FA Signings Bart Scott ILB Jim Leonhard S Mock Draft 1. Vontae Davis CB: In all of my previous mocks Ive had us taking a WR in the first round but the more i think about it the more i think were gonna go Defense with our 1st rounder. Davis has the size and the speed we are looking for. Last year we had problems with the consistency of the CB opposite of Revis. Davis is solid in man and zone coverage and can deliver the big hit. Drafting Davis would complement Revis well and would lockdown our CBs for years to come. 2. Tyson Jackson DE: Jackson's stock is falling and may or may not rise depending on his combine and etc. You can never have enough D-line depth in the 3-4. Besides Mosley we really have no Dline depth if one of our starters goes down were screwed. Jackson is an average pass rusher but a great run stopper and has the stength and size to play 3-4 DE. If he can gain around 10-15 pounds he will be a stud. Coleman has been average at RE and he may become a liability. We should reconstructure colemans contract and have Jackson in Coleman fight it out for the RE spot. If Jackson is at our pick in the 2nd round i dont think there is anyway we pass on him cause in the end we need as much depth as we can get on the Dline. 3. Juaquain Iglesias WR: Im not sure if Iglesias will be on the board in the 3rd round but if he is he would defintley be worth a 3rd rounder. He has great size and bulk and can catch a football. He would be a steal in the 3rd. if he isnt on the board during our 3rd round pick look for us to draft the best WR left. With our remaing picks we will probably try to pick up some depth at RB,Oline,Dline and LB Depth Chart: QB: Clemens RB: TJ,Washington FB: Richardson TE: Keller WR: Coles,Cotchery,Clowney,Stuckey LT: D'Brick LG: Faneca C: Mangold RG: Moore RT: Woody LE: Ellis NT: Jenkins RE: Jackson LOLB: Pace LILB: Harris RILB: Scott ROLB: Gholston CB: Revis,Davis S: Rhodes,Leonhard K: Feeley P: Hodges
I would bring in a veteran cornerback (i.e. Leigh Bodden) too. Let Davis sit for a year and learn the system.
I like Bodden.... it'd be nice to get him and McAlister if they come cheap.. but I expect both to be in the bargain bin. Davis can sit, and learn to grow up too. I hear he has really bad character issues. I know no more angels to play on this team, but I don't want a douche who is going to piss the locker room off. Our team chemistry is really high, it was the coach that ruined it last year with his "principals office." In terms of this draft, I'd like more front 7 help if we have 4 capable WR while Inglesias sits. or maybe even a backup OL, we need the depth.
I like where you are going position wise but I like different players, Macho Harris at CB, I like Brace at DE, in the Ngata mold, WR I like Nicks and Britt. same as my top 3 just a different order.
i like cushing at no.17.he can play all 4 lb pos.and would hedge our bet on gholston.sign me up for bodden too
If we go CB in the 1st round i think it would be retarded to make him sit a year to "learn" you learn more when your on the field. Look at what an impact Revis had his first year. Davis could have the same and give us one of the best CB tandem in the NFL.
We could keep Law and let him be a mentor. Im not opposed to bring in bodden. If we sign him i think We should either have him be our 2nd CB or our 3rd CB and let Davis Be our 2nd. Revis,Bodden,Davis,Lowery or Revis,Davis,Bodden,Lowery either way would make our secondary sick assuming we sign Leonhard.
How is Cushing shooting up draft boards like this? He's slow as hell. Don't get me wrong, he is excellent at wrapping up, but you notice how more than half of his tackles are lunging? He LOVES leaving his feet while tackling, and it is an extremely bad habit that isn't just a bad habit for the hell of it, he does it because he isn't fast enough to close properly, and he's so used to diving at ball carriers that even when he isn't outran he still leaves his feet and hops up into the air a bit. That's at the college level. Those lunging tackles are going to end up at the ball carrier's feet a lot more often at the pro level. Those jumping tackles will be shaken off a lot more often at the pro level. I remember first word about Cushing was mid to late second at best. Now people think he belongs in the middle of the first? What has changed in the last month that has made Cushing fast enough to play the same way as in college at the next level? Even if he added that small bit of speed, do you want him to play the same way? That tackling technique is gonna hurt him big time in the NFL. Second round? Sure, why not. First? That's a HUGE stretch. There is absolutely NO rhyme or reason as to why he keeps moving up draft boards like this. None.
I like it alot as far as it happening I dont believe Vontae Davis will far that far along with tyson jackson. Is leonard the best possible safety option im not completely sold on him? I think this mock really adresses our team needs although if were gonna draft a reciever or sign one I really want it to be a sure number one.
If Tyson Jackson falls to the second round when we pick I don't think that the Jets would even be on the clock for more than a minute...he seems like a perfect DE in a 3-4
Agreed, I'd be thrilled with this draft but the chances that both those guys fall are very very slim.
Signings are solid and realistic... I would welcome both. Vontae Davis is a good prospect, but we need CB help now and I feel Alphonso Smith is more NFL ready. I wouldn't be upset if we took Davis by any stretch, but I'd prefer Alphonso Smith. I really don't think that Tyson Jackson will make it that far. He's a better prospect than that and a prototypical 3-4 DE, which will make him somewhat higher in demand. If he did fall that far, we'd have to take him. I'm no longer a big fan of going WR too early unless we have a remarkable free agent signing period. I like Coles and Cotchery as starters and love the potential of David Clowney, Chansi Stuckey and even Brad Smith to an extent.
NOOOOO Ty Law is a cancer and needs to go. He always gets called for illegal contact, which is absurd considering the rule was made up for him.. you'd think he'd catch on. Also, he's just old and not good and only still plays because of his name.
Agree, Law isn't really as good as he was even 3 years ago. He costs us too many yards on penalties and is too old now. Let him go to Cleveland!
i really don't know why i said "sit for a year".... yea that was fucking retarded. but he does need to grow up.
Idk what it is but i just like Davis better than Smith. i like smiths physical aspect. Hes 6-0 204 compared to smith who is 5-9 193. I also think that saints might pick Smith over Davis because of davis character problems in the past which lets Davis fall to us. If Jackson doesnt fall to our 2nd rounder i still think we will go Dline and Hopefully Ron Brace will be on the board. And since we went D for our first 2 picks i see us going O in the 3rd.
Very realistic, well thought out. I am in the V Davis camp, CB is clearly our biggest need, but no Ty Law for any reason. I never liked Law's attitude or his free lancing style. He left his assignments often attempting to ball hawk, and the young DB's often got caught up in trying to cover for him. We got lucky last year... Jones and Leon both stayed healthy. We need another RB, an all purpose type to both back up Jones and to pick up the additional carries I think this ofense will run. Two RB's is simply one too few. So, I'm thinking CB round 1, RB round 2... and then there really isn't much left in the third at LB or DE, so I'd look to get some depth at OG both as a backup to Moore and Faneca, but also a kid to groom to replace Faneca sooner or later. I like Herman Johnson, OG, LSU- 6'8", 380 pounds. Kid is a beast, and while his pass blocking and agility may be concerns, as well as his weight down the road, he is explosive off the snap and just buries people. This guy can push a pile all by himself. Probably limited to being an ORG, but still... imagine short yardage, Mangold, HJ and Woody blowing off the line folowed by Tony Richardson? Even if he only gets used as a short yardage role player, I'd take him in the third round. All reports say if he gets a hand on you, you are done. It would be a nice change to see the Jets O line generate the kind of push this kid would bring, especially in what looks to be a very run oriented offense.
Physically, Vontae Davis has it all - but he has one of the worst attitudes I have ever seen in a player. Zook benched him this year because wasn't trying when Illinois was losing. If he gets his head right, Davis can be a great player because he has all the physical tools to be an all-pro.
