He has spent four days training with Walt Cline, Velocity Sports Performance's director of athlete development, and former NFL TE Leonard Stephens. In the morning, Lewis will fill out paperwork and take written tests, including the Wonderlic. In the afternoon, he will be weighed and measured; will be tested in the 40-yard dash, vertical jump and standing broad jump; and will perform agility and position drills for tight ends and linemen. Jets | Team has nine draft picks Wed, 19 Apr 2006 18:37:56 -0700 The New York Jets have nine draft picks in the 2006 NFL Draft. The team has picks 1.4 (4 overall), 1.29 (29 overall), 2.3 (35 overall), 3.7 (71 overall), 3.33 (97 overall), 4.6 (103 overall), 4.20 (117 overall), 5.5 (138 overall) and 7.3 (211 overall).
Jai Lewis? Are we trying to find the next Antonio Gates? I know Lewis is a BEAST but does he even have a football backround?
I thought that was well, but it turns out the pick for McGraw is for 2007. Just as the pick the Jets had to give up for Hunter (a 7th I believe) is for 2007 (Yes we have to give Dallas a pick, if Hunter made the team it would have been a 6th). Gotta love Bradway giving up a pick for a player that didn't even make the roster.
Jai Lewis im pretty sure does have a football background coming from High School but not out of George Mason. A lot of reporters have been talking about him going to the NFL all year long and mention him as another Antonio Gates type prospect. The man is huge and is athletic for his size. I really dont feel he will be as good as Gates but depending on where he falls to he might be worth the shot towards the later rounds of the draft. Youth
Hey if we can get him LATE it might be a crapshoot but who cares -- could be a nice project in the works. NO MORE FIRST ROUND TE's!!(Vernon Davis)
Jets | V. Davis entering the picture Thu, 20 Apr 2006 06:29:33 -0700 Bob Glauber and Ken Berger, of Newsday, report there is increased speculation in league circles that the New York Jets are giving serious consideration to drafting Maryland TE Vernon Davis, whom some scouts consider one of the best talents at his position in years. The 6-3, 254-pound Davis has been on the rise on draft boards all spring because of his athleticism, 4.4 speed in the 40-yard dash and ability to stretch the field. Last season at Maryland, Davis had 51 catches for 871 yards and six touchdowns. Jets | Team liking R. Bush; but won't move up Thu, 20 Apr 2006 06:24:57 -0700 Gary Myers, of the New York Daily News, reports the New York Jets are smitten with USC RB Reggie Bush, but will not call the Houston Texans about moving up to the top spot to get him, even with Houston willing to listen to trade offers. There are many smokescreens out and about at this time of the year, but Wednesday night, April 19, Texans general manager Charley Casserly insisted that Houston has not decided between the dynamic Bush and North Carolina State DE Mario Williams. Casserly said he hasn't received any offers for the No.1 pick. "It doesn't mean we won't," he said. "We are open to offers." One source believes Casserly is trying to use Williams to create leverage in negotiations with Bush's agent, Joel Segal. Casserly, naturally, rejected that theory and also said he is not trying to entice trade offers by talking up Williams. Jets | Team conducted pre-draft visit with Lutui Wed, 19 Apr 2006 19:35:28 -0700 Aaron Wilson, of the Carroll County Times, reports the New York Jets have conducted a pre-draft visit with USC OL Taitusi Lutui.
Dude, Lutui is supposedly a lock for the 2nd round. The guy dropped 60 pounds to get in shape for his senior year. He's one of the top G prospects in the draft....
Top? Maybe after Gilles, Joseph, and Spencer. Gilles and Joseph should go in the 2nd rd, and Spencer is 2nd/borderline 3rd. Lutui should be a 3rd rd pick
Jets | Visit with Young goes well, according to agent Fri, 21 Apr 2006 08:50:47 -0700 Randy Lange, of the Bergen Record, reports Texas QB Vince Young's visit with the New York Jets "went real well," according to Young's agent, Major Adams. Jets offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer put Young through a chalkboard period and a workout, which lasted 90 minutes each. "Vince liked it," said Adams. "The Jets' offense is similar in terminology to what they ran at Texas, so he was comfortable with it. And I think he answered any questions the Jets might have had. He was very accurate and had great velocity on the ball." Jets | Team will meet with D. Coleman Fri, 21 Apr 2006 06:13:23 -0700 Ken Berger, of Newsday, reports the New York Jets will conduct a pre-draft visit with TCU CB Drew Coleman Friday, April 21.
