not sure if this was posted as yet, odds makers are giving the Jets a better chance to win the SB than the Cardinals, Bears and Bucs...

    http://www.fannation.com/si_blogs/for_the_record/posts/46821?eref=fromSI

    New England Patriots8/1
    Dallas Cowboys 9/1
    New York Giants 10/1
    Pittsburgh Steelers 10/1
    Indianapolis Colts 12/1
    San Diego Chargers 12/1
    Baltimore Ravens 14/1
    Tennessee Titans 16/1
    Carolina Panthers 18/1
    Philadelphia Eagles 18/1
    New Orleans Saints 20/1
    Atlanta Falcons 25/1
    Denver Broncos 25/1
    Green Bay Packers 25/1
    Jacksonville Jaguars 25/1
    Minnesota Vikings 25/1
    New York Jets 25/1
    Arizona Cardinals 30/1
    Chicago Bears 30/1
    Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30/1
    Buffalo Bills 35/1
    Houston Texans 35/1
    Miami Dolphins 35/1
    Washington Redskins 35/1
    Seattle Seahawks 50/1
    Cleveland Browns 55/1
    Cincinnati Bengals 60/1
    San Francisco 49ers 60/1
    Oakland Raiders 75/1
    St. Louis Rams 75/1
    Detroit Lions 100/1
    Kansas City Chiefs 100/1

of course, a new season and the Patriots are the easy favorites to win it. I don't know whats worse, losing after being favored to win, or never having a real shot to win.

I don't understand why Arizona would be 30/1 and the Jets are 25/1.

The Patriots are a slight favorite, not an easy favorite and the Jets are in the middle of the pack where they always are.

Because Warner and Boldin both may not be back.

Welcome to a world where 25/1 odds is a good shot at winning the Super Bowl.

That makes some sense, but we have Favre possibly not coming back (probably less likely to come back than Warner), and we don't have a receiver on our roster as good as Boldin.

Because the goal of the odds-makers is NOT to accurately predict the actual odds of the thing happening, but to make sure that they make money no matter who wins.

Their goal is to arrange the odds in such a way that people will make bets on all the teams and that no matter who wins, their take is higher than the amount they have to pay out. To do that, you have to put higher odds on teams that a lot of people will bet on. Most people think the Patriots will be like the 2007 Patriots once Brady comes back, so they make them 8 to 1.

High odds do not mean "Vegas thinks we have a shot," it means "Vegas thinks a lot of people will bet on us." Just based on the fact that there are more Jets fans than Cardinals fans, if both teams had the exact same chance of winning the superbowl, the Jets would have higher odds than the Cardinals would.

Yeah, I know. The early odds are always a mystery. They will change as things progress through FA and the draft though.

I was in Vegas right before the first Kotite year in 1995, we were 50-1. I put money down just in case. In hindsight, I should have bought a sandwich.

Dolphins go from AFC East Champs to 35/1 Odds. Worse than the Pats and Jets, tied with Buffalo.

It's weird. There are a lot of people who still base everything on the 2007 season, like 2008 never happened.

Don't throw money down on the Jets yet. If Favre retires, we will go to 50/1.

Take that betting money and buy a Megamillions ticket... better odds.

Yeah, or go to the nearest casino and sit at the slot machine as long as you can. At least you might get a buffet.
