Woody is just not in touch with the common "joe" and "jane". If he had the financial issues that we have, he wouldn't like the PSL's either.....but because he's got 500 cars, 2000 mansions, a gazillion dollars, and a partridge in a pear tree, he really can say and do whatever he wants.
Sporting events have become for the elite. That is capitalism. That is how it works. They will charge what the public (and corporations) are willing to pay. If you can't afford it, you are not in the economically elite class. I am in the lower class, not the elite. I'll go to one game, just to see the new stadium, and be content to watching games in HD, which is all I can afford. Was it Buchanon? No, Herbert Hoover. "The only problem with capitalism is capitalists." Given the Enrons, the Cheney's, the banks, the wall street thieves, the oil speculators, this quote is more approriate now than it was in Hoover's days. This is NOT a league "for the people, by the people..." It is run as a profit center. Make as much $$ as the market will bear. That is why they play games in London and Japan.... that is where the greatest $ ROI growth potential is. Don't complain about it.... just don't buy it. WE determine what the market will bear, and as such, are ourt own worst enemies.
Even if your correct in your idealistic view of laissez faire capitalism you are leaving out the fact that corporations can deduct ticket prices from taxes as a business expense. This is not what laissez faire capitalism, good or bad, is really about. It costs individuals twice as much to buy a ticket, all things considered than a corporation. That is not an even playing field, it is not fairness according to either Adam Smith or Karl Marx. http://books.google.com/books?id=Kd...ts=bTorRt1dgH&sig=u5hvUaGlp0zrZFeuzywYb5IchQg
?Colleague Filip Bondy asked a great question to owner Woody Johnson: How could one company hire such entirely different people for the same position (i.e. Mangini and Ryan)? Woody smiled, cracking, "Maybe it's a mental defect." But then he said something pretty interesting. "We've been preoccupied with building the stadium and this (facility), and now we're really focused on the most important aspect, and that's the team," he said. That's probably not what fans want to hear, at least not the ones that made financial and emotional investments in the team over the past few seasons. This quote was the reason woody went on WFAN ; to get his foot out of his mouth . SELL WOODY SELL !!!
I will post this again, which is taken right from the Jets website. You can: ? Pay in full ? Pay over 5 years (with 6.5% interest and a 20% deposit) ? Pay over 15 years (with 8% interest and a 20% deposit)
That was the whole point of this ...Woody made it seem like he was being an angel, giving people "choices for PSL's"...he just happened to leave out the future raping of us with crazy interest rates if we finance our PSL's.
Well, you do have the option to just pay for it all now. What are you bitching about? He isn't forcing you to finance it.
Yes that I agree with that he was doing the fans a favor by offering terms to pay out the PSLs. I chuckle at the way he came across on that point
8% is not a crazy rate at all. It may seem high now but what will rates be in 5, 10 or 15 years? If we are still in a recession then we might just as well pack it up now anyway. 8% in 10 years may be a joke because it is so cheap.
Bullshit, it's idiotic to think you should get free financing. If you think 8% on a 15 year loan is high then just go out to your neighborhood bank and borrow it from them and pay off the PSL in full.
