With the Ravens not being able to retain all of their defensive studs?? Who would you want the most to come over from the Ravens?
Thanks for quoting my stupidity:wink: After realizing my mistake, I would most definitely go with Scott. The Lewis thing is still true and Gholston has to be our Suggs...not really any choice with his contract.
Out of those 3 choices, I like Bart Scott the most. But the best scenario IMO would be to fill in that safety position with Leonhard and draft an ILB or DE in the 1st round. Leonhard would be cheaper to get than Scott and we'd be drafting a Rex-guy (I trust his eye for talent and style to fit the smash mouth defense he's promising) to align next to Harris for a long time.
Is Leonhard even that unique, or is he a product of coaching? Why pay him big money when you can just mould E.Smith or Elam into that type of player?
Barton was our leading tackler when Harris was hurt, and leading tackler for the year by 39 tackles...I think he stays, unless Rex thinks that he's too slow? Why is no one talking about Jim Leonhard?? I love the idea of cutting Coleman and E. Smith, and bringing in this kid. He's young, fast, and knows what Rex wants to do. He is also a good punt return man, and can take some pressure away from Leon in that department.
That's actually exactly what he is. He couldn't cut it with the Bills so Ryan brought him in and he excelled in Rex's defensive system. If Ryan is promising to bring that same system here to NY, I don't see how Leonhard wouldn't contribute and produce as well as he has (as a first time starter) this past season. If you saw the Ravens games in the post-season you'll see how his level of play has reached the next level. If you want to talk coverage, he was able to line up as a CB covering the slot receiver and even cover TE's like Heath Miller. He also returns punts as well.
Suggs but we have too much money poured into the OLB spot already. Bart Scott over Ray Lewis only because he would be here long term as opposed to stop-gap with RL... We aren't close enough to a SB to bring in leaders for a year or two. Scott would replace Barton perfectly.
The issue with Barton and Thomas is speed. Neither can really cover anyone and they just aren't fluid players. The linebackers are the heart of these aggressive defenses and they need to be able to cover, rush the qb, stop the run on any play. Barton can't cover and he can't rush the qb but he's great against the run. Having a player like that missing two dimensions creates scheme issues. I like Barton but at this state of his career he would be better suited to play strong side in a 4-3. Harris and Pace should both fit in very nicely in this defense. As long as Harris can stay healthy I expect Ryan to use him the way he used Lewis. We saw what a healthy Harris capable of doing last year and I expect that Ryan will be able to maximize his ability.
Ray Lewis...for one reason. He's the only one on that list who'll come in and convince that defense to start kicking the other teams in the mouth. He would bring that nasty intensity to the Jets D. Might sound stupid, but I think that's what it'll take to convert the Jets D into what RR wants.
I would take any of them but obviously Lewis or Scott make the most sense. Jets can't put the money it will take for Suggs into another OLB, besides he is the most likely Raven to be franchised. Ray Lewis would have by far the biggest impact for this team, he would bring the Bryan Cox effect with him only with twice the talent. I'd love to see Lewis in the green and white but think Scott is the most likely, which I wouldn't complain about.
I would take Ray Lewis. I realize his age is a factor, but who better to teach this defense, and make players accountable? Ray Lewis is a leader. The Jets DO NOT have a leader. You can't coach that.Your born with it.
I'm pretty sure that the only reason Suggs signed his Franchise Tender last year was with the agreement that the Ravens wouldn't do it again this year. But I agree for the other reasons that you gave, he's not as good a signing as Scott. Woulda, Coulda, Shoulda department: We drafted Mayo last year instead of Slowston, THEN signed Suggs this year...*drool*
I voted for Suggs. He has the most long term potential of the bunch. Lewis is slowing down and will not make as much of an impact on the field. Scott is probably the best value for the dollar we would pay but I rated them independently of cost.
