Did not see this posted anywhere. I've heard of Ernie Zampese, but not his son:

Ryan trying to retain Schottenheimer in New York
Posted: Adam Schefter | Adam Schefter | Tags: Brian Schottenheimer, Ken Zampese, New York Jets

With their head coach in place, the New York Jets are getting closer to lifting off with the ever-important position of offensive coordinator.

If Rex Ryan cannot convince offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer to stay with New York, he then plans to hire Bengals quarterbacks coach Ken Zampese as Schottenheimer’s replacement. Under that scenario, the Jets’ coaching braintrust would have a lineage of coaching success stories. Buddy Ryan, Rex’s father, was a longtime standout coach, and Ernie Zampese, Ken’s father, was a noted offensive mind.

Though Ryan has his eyes on Zampese, he still would like to retain Schottenheimer. But it’s uncertain whether he can.

Sometime this week, as early as Thursday, Ryan and Schottenheimer are expected to meet and discuss whether the two will work together during the 2009 football season. If they can work out, then the Jets fly on with no issues. If they can’t, then Ryan plans to turn to the 41-year-old Zampese as a replacement.

I can somewhat see why Ryan would want to retain Schott. Continuity in the offense. He is going to install a new D..Albeit, it is a 3-4 Defense, it will look nothing like the Jets 3-4 from the past years.

Yes, he has woody and tanny wanting to keep Schott, but he probably feels his defensive schemes could keep teams out of the endzone, so an offense the just plods by may be worth the risk.

Well how bad can a guy be that coached Ryan Fitzpatrick to 4 wins and a tie that for the Bengals was as good as a win?

If Shotty isn't retained, then I hope they select Callahan or even Linehan. I'd prefer an OC with some experience since we have a rookie HC.

I cannot imagine what anyone sees in the Bengals QB coach, or why he would be a good choice.

It should be what Ryan wants, I don't have a preferance, I want a guy that Ryan will know what he is thinking and understand his offence

I have a confession. For the longest time, I thought a totally different guy was Adam Schefter. I come before TGG, a humbled man. A broken man. But I have learned my lesson. All I ask for is your forgiveness...

Bob Sutton was also retained for continuity. Rex needs to come in with his guys.

No way Linehan should be considered for anything save a ball boy internship.

He did nothing as an OC, and his team in St. Louis was a total embarrassment. Plus he looks like a little troll.

lools like he's been involved with some explosive offenses....including the "Greatest Show on Turf"....interesting. I wonder how much of Mike Martz's forte he would bring with him.

The OC is a very important piece to the puzzle Rex is trying to put together. He needs to be confident in his choice. If Schotty is his choice, then he needs to convince him that this is the best place for him. If not, he needs to be thorough in his decision as to who he selects. A kneejerk selection may cost him his job before the coordinators.

Hopefully none. It would be wasted with the Clydesdales we have running routes. Yoou need at least 2 thoroughbreds to run a Martz style offense. That is probably what cost him his job in SF, and the fact that he trusted a crapbag QB to run said offense.

At bare minimum he's been involved with some explosive Os. Pass-happy at least.

I hope he has Mike's forte' just not his problem solving skills.

oh believe me...i don't want Martz anywhere near the Jets, he's got the personality of an ashtray. But he DOES know "passing offense"...something the Jets struggled with last year.

So i agree with you..if the guy brings Martz's philosophy...great! Just not his personality.
