I'm sure this is something we've all been thinking about. I think we do have some players on our roster that study a lot of film on there own as the writer suggests we don't, but they don't have as much raw talent. We've heard the stories of Rhodes, Revis and Elam studying film on there own.

The key is Vernon Gholston. If he comes back next year improved and becomes a ferocious pass rusher then everything else will fall into place. Pace is a solid all around LB not really a pass rushing specialist but I can see, again IF Gholston is vastly improved, Pace benefiting from the double teams that Gholston will probably face. As long as the LB's are stepping up and applying pressure then Lowery, Rhodes should be that much better too.

Yeah well, the writers were talking during the first two months of the season about how Brett Favre was spending extra time in the film room with the entire receiving corps. By the end of the season they were saying Brett Favre was in a totally different part of the clubhouse from the rest of the team.

Sports writers will do whatever they have to sell a story. This team is full of students. It is factual that we don't have a Ray Lewis on our team, but these guys study.

Our defense looked pretty good this year till the last several games when, as the stories say, EM tore up the playbook. Our pass defense was suspect. I think if we get a more few pieces and Rex installs his "personality" on our defense we will be in good shape. Until the end our ratings were pretty good and that was with Sutton back there at the controls.

We are rebuilding this is at least a 2 to 3 year project that's after we are settled on a QB. Ryan needs a year or two to figure out how to be the HC and we need to settle on a QB, get ourselves some outside speed on D and a No. 1 WR and a running back who can move the pile. We also need a TE who can actually seal the edge.

i disagree i dont believe he needs a learning curve for the head coaching position.

if he is a man of intelligence (which he is) he will either bring on linehan or keep schottenheimer as the OC, bring Pettine for DC, and keep Westhoff as special teams coach.

and in regards to the TE situation.
we have two distinct tight ends, a rare, believe me, RARE luxury in the NFL. Chris Baker is arguably the best all-around tight end in the league, however his play was significantly reduced last season and he is sadly underrated.

and then you have the prototype in Dustin Keller, who has the frame of a Tight End, but the skill set, and speed of a wideout.

Man.. He is a "rookie" head coach for the New York Jets, of course he is going to have a learning curve to overcome. Sadly, he will go to work and make a ton of mistakes, and just when he gets the hang of things, he will get the axe too.

    Awesome, eh?

Now you're just talking crazy talk. Arguably the best all around TE in the league?? GTFOH. He's an average TE, nothing special.

Who's arguing? A Jets fan and who else? I think that Baker has arguably the best hands on the team, but to call him 'arguably the best TE in the league' is one of the most ridiculous things I have read in a while. He is above average. That's it.

I can't believe you guys are even overrating Baker as "above average". He's got above average hands for a TE, and everything else is barely average, if even.

So were you trying to derail this thread or are you just that deluded?

IL think Pace could become a very good pass rusher with some inventive coaching.

LMFAO. Another gem from the Kid. Lowery and Baker All-Pro 2009!!

    Both should be cut IMO.

Baker is a better than average receiver for a TE and at least a serviceable blocking TE. If he comes cheap (which he may not), why would we get rid of him?

Above average? Compared to whom? The other tight ends on the Jets.

He doesn't stand out in any facet of the game. That is the very definition of average.

If you are arguing with the tard and just made a mistake ignore me.

Edit: LOL I figured I would skip the arguably best tight end in the league stuff as that sounds like Raiderjoe became Jetjoe. uggh

Wow, how quickly a decent article about rex turned into a pile on PTK thread.

    Then again, calling baker
is so full of hyperbole its not funny.

Baker can catch, sure, but he can't get open consistently.

Baker has great hands but is to slow to be a big time pass catching TE. He is a below average blocker and does nothing for our running game. Baker is such a threat in the passing game that we tried to get a weapon in the Doug Jolly trade and wasted a 2 to move up to draft a more dynamic version of Doug Jolly.
