Looking to get feedback from the rest of the guys on here,

i'm looking at realistic possibilities to fill some of the voids in free agency and then the rest of the "holes" will be addressed through the draft.

    First and Foremost.

Quarterbacks: I truly believe Schottenheimer will like to evaluate the talent between Clemens, Ratliff, and Ainge. I do not see the Jets drafting a QB in this years draft.

Runningbacks: We are set with Thomas Jones, Leon Washington, and Jehuu Caulcrick. I do not think runningback is a pressing need for this year, after the 09' season definitely. But not now.

However Tony Richardson is a free agent. And was the major reason why Thomas Jones had his franchise record-setting season that he did.

If we are unable to re-sign Tony, our money should be on a younger fullback.

Possible: Leonard Weaver Ht: 6-0 Wt: 251

Offensive Line: We need reliable backups on the line. We were very fortunate to have a line that remained healthy throughout the season and played together for 16 games. However Faneca (7.0 sacks) and Woody (6.5 sacks) our two headlining acquisitions in the offseason, gave up the most sacks compared to Brick, Mangold and Moore (2 sacks each).

    I'm reluctant to start Woody.

Possible: Khalif Barnes. Ht: 6-5 Wt: 325

    Wide Receiver:

I truly believe we should address this need in the draft, however despite that Tannenbaum is the GM, Rex Ryan is going to have a voice in the draft.

The only receiver I trust will not demand alot of money, and is incredibly consistent and productive is, Nate Washington Ht: 6-1 Wt: 185.

Tight End: We are set at the tight end position with Chris Baker, and Dustin Keller.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    2009 DEFENSE OF THE YEAR

This is our strong point. This is the reason why rex ryan is our new head coach. We have a strong foundation as of right now, but we need to improve on our dynamics, speed, and our line is aging.

Being that we will continue to run a 3-4, our most pressing need is defensive end, linebacker, and safety, as well as having suitable players that can rotate in for DT/DE to keep the line stable and in pace with the opposing offensive lines.

DT: Kris Jenkins has the potential to truly shine in Rex Ryan's scheme, along with Pettine being brought over to continue the defensive success they had in Baltimore.

Kris Jenkins 6'4" 349, and Gabe Watson, 6'4 340 can complement the size and tenacity Jenkins brings to the line.

DE: Two Words. Chris Canty. Dallas. Solid starter that can push Coleman to a backup role.

LB: I'm going to be EXTREMELY, almost psychotic, in my optimism and hope that we start Gholston at OLB, and that allows Thomas to rotate in or vice versa, and Calvin Pace is solid at his position.

Eric Barton will not be resigned by the Jets, and that leaves a significant vacancy at MLB. Harris battled injuries throughout the 2008 season and even when healthy was not stellar ala his rookie season in 2007.

THIS position is the #1 need that can be addressed in the draft. In the meantime, KARLOS DANSBY is looking like a fantastic fit in the 3-4 scheme, at 6'4 240.

CB: Not everyone is a fan of Dwight Lowery, i feel that the DB coach, Jerome Henderson did not want Ty Law, if you see the immediate replacement of Lowery and how Ty Law was seeing playing time, it was a head coaches decision rather than an assistants recommendation.

However, Ronald Bartell is a player that isn't highly publicized, won't demand a big contract, and if are able to sign him our cornerbacks will be the BEST in the league.

Safety: Anyone who is a Jets fan, will know for a fact that our weakness in the secondary is at Strong Safety. Abram Elam, and Eric Smith are average backups, not starters.

Unfortunately Taylor Mays will not be coming out for this years draft, and he was my number one pick, therefore we should address this position with Sean Jones, at 6'1 215, is a veteran and is a solid starter at his position, and has shown the range.

Let me know how you feel about the above mentioned free agency picks,
I did this on a limb after reevaluating the draft, seeing as how some of the key players we were looking at decided to stay in school.

    *PROSPECTIVES

I truly believe that Lorenzo Neal and James Farrior should come back to New York. Truly I tell you.

...and I want to see a veteran QB at least looked at -- Byron Leftwich is a possibility.

PS KiD::. : We don't have nearly enough cap space to sign all of those players - I'll tell you like I tell everyone else, Go Play Some Madden.

Ronald Bartell (born February 22, 1982 in Detroit, Michigan) is a National Football League defensive back for the St. Louis Rams. He played college football at Howard University and was selected in the second round of the 2005 NFL Draft. Bartell was the first Howard football player picked prior to the 6th round of the NFL Draft.

In his rookie season he played in ten games making seven starts and recorded 34 tackles. In the 2006 season he made 25 tackles and three interceptions. His first career interception came at the Oakland Raiders on December 17. The 2007 season was a career best in terms of tackles made as he ended the campaign with 67, along with one sack and two interceptions.

I think we need a quality back up NT, to spell Jenkins to keep him fresh for the end of the season..

    Rocky Bernard, UFA, Seattle Seahawks
Bernard had an off the field incident prior to the ’08 season, but returned from a one-game suspension to have another quality season while playing for a struggling team Seattle team. He has had as many as eight and a half sacks in a season and closed this season with four sacks. He also had a career high of 55 tackles this year and forced a fumble. All in all, Bernard may not be at the top of a lot of free agent wish lists, but if the Seahawks don’t keep him around, some team will be getting a reliable defensive tackle.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Jets draft a QB this year. either that or bring in a veteran given Favre retires/is cut. Clemens is going into the last year of his deal and it still pretty much an unknown. Ratliff even more so. That's a lot of uncertainty right there.

He's nowhere near big enough to anchor a 3-4. We were looking at Bernard 4 years ago to replace McGlockton/Reed at DT in a 4-3... He could probably play 3-4 DE though.

I get a feeling Clemens will leave and finally be given a chance and be successful in 2010.

My vote? Sign Canty, Leonhard and Vilma, none of the three should be that expensive and all fill areas of need on this team. Hope Stafford falls to us in the first, unlikely with Bradford not coming out (I think?), otherwise let Clemens or Ratliff have 09. Pick up a corner in the second or third, but plan on Lowery being a starter day one next year.

Do you realize how TRULY annoying you are?

As for Farrior, he's a free agent in 2009, and he'll probably sign back with the Steelers for cheap -- but Neal is a current Raven, and with his age, he'll more than likely be let go. The guys one of the best blocking backs to ever play the game...why not try to sign him if T-Rich leaves? I guess you didn't see the sarcasm in my post though...

For the record, I wanted to get rid of Vilma. I don't think he fits well in the 3-4. The only jersey that I'd beat off on would be Terrell Suggs...oh man I hope he wants to play for Ryan and Pettine.

I ALWAYS read what you write and your posts get worse and worse over time.

Seriously, we need 1 Official thread on FA's, and Sticky it.

Tannenbaum is a huge advocate of draft flexibility, so FA's will be signed before the draft. But they won't be top flight because we simply don't have the money to acquire them like last Offseason.

All of that adds up to needing an A+ draft. Not only do we have starting role holes, but we also need depth. Because of the cap space, I'm assuming the depth will come in FA so the early picks can be spent on immediate contributors, which must be nailed this April -- none of this project shit like Gholston.

Ryan could be in for a longg year because of all the needs, both starting and depth-wise and the schedule is rough. But at least we'll be able to get a good idea of what kind of team he wants to assemble.

Nobody is being signed or even retained unless and until the Jets rid themselves of the ultimate albatross - Brett Favre and his bloated contract. If Favre comes back, not only do the Jets have no cap room, but we can expect another year of no developing a QB, interceptions galore, and a fade at the end. Unless Ryan has the onions to cut him, which would be just fine in my book.

    Kid,

You are crazy if you think we won't address the QB position in some way or form. Do we have a franchise QB? At the moment, we do not. Are we ready to hold with what we have? Probably not. Secondly, no guarantee that Schott is back. Rex Ryan just came from a place who drafted a franchise QB and to think of the QB carousel that was in Baltimore. I don't think we can leave any stone unturned especially our quarterback situation!

Secondly, Rex Ryan worked for Ozzie Newsome for years. Ozzie Newsome knows how to build through the draft. Do you think for one second that he hasn't instilled that in Ryan? We won't be able to afford guys like Canty anyways. Karlos Dansby will want a contract in the Calvin Pace range, probably. Ronald Bartell may demand top dollar as well. I am sure there are personnel in this league that will pay way more than you think hes worth.

In sum, as Joe Willie stated, we have the bloated contract of Favre. Secondly, we spent a great deal of money last that restricts what we do. Third, if I am a betting man, Rex Ryan wants to build through the draft.

NFL Network's Schefter before the benching of Dwight Lowery, reported there was a tension in the Jets locker room upon the announcement that the Jets signed Ty Law, and apprehension among assistants.

I didn't know what to make of it at first. I felt that it may have been a locker room thing, but after the last 4 games where Ty Law was starting Bob Sutton was not on the same page with the other defensive assistants and the immediate depth chart jump for Ty Law over Coleman, Poteat, and Lowery was a head coach decision that might have been initiated by a higher power (Mike Tannenbaum).

It could be another Adam Schefter bogus report, and speculative bullshit.

But I believe that pieces fit with the Dwight Lowery situation.

on the contrary, if your replies weren't full with sarcasm and laced with animosity, I perhaps would not be a dick to you.

if your going to post feedback, be on point. none of this farrior, lorenzo neal bullshit.

its not realistic. and they will not come back, and why would you want a player whos been in the league for 15 years?! rather than develop a fullback who has the potential to develop into him?

id draft a young qb in the 2nd-4rd rd, and sign a veteran qb to provide some competition.

id also love to sure up the defense, we can def use another end considering coleman isnt that great and ellis with his weed issues is probably going to be suspended for a few games, also we need another inside presence at linebacker as david harris struggled with injuries and barton is old and slow. We also could use another playmaker at corner, lowery is ok but another presence at corner could significantly help solidfy the secondary.

problem with all of this is we need favre to retire as his 12 plus million could go a long way towards helping are avg. cap situation
