I never said he was great or even good my point was guys are saying Mangini restricted what he was able to do I do not know if it is true but if it is than who knows
how do you undermine your boss when your boss is the one who makes the final decision? you seem to want to ignore that pretty important factor in your call to manhood. you can argue with your boss all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that if your boss wants to, he makes the call. so, please explain how Mangini (possibly) making the offensive calls reflects anything on Schottenheimer's manhood? I'm not defending Schottenheimer, just pointing out the flaws in your position. what's next, Shottenheimer isn't a real man because he didn't undermine Woody and build the Jets a new stadium in NY?
You missed the post where I said that was tongue-in-cheek. The NY stadium would have been cool though.
Shotty was good in 2006. I think it is clear that we exceeded expectations that year on the offensive side of the ball. In fact, there was a lovefest on this board about him that year. So what happened between 2006 and 2008 to Shotty's playcalling?
You have to understand corporate culture. Nobody is saying Schotty doesn't suck. It's because he sucks that he is coveted by the Jets organization.
Pennington was like a coach on the field, he was the glue of that 06 team with rookie coaches, rookies on the O-line and no #1 running back. In 2007 he got hurt, was ineffective and came out, in 2008 we brought in Favre and had to scale back a lot of the offense to suit him. That's a lot of it, Chad made Herm look better than he was and then Shotty.
Francessa is also not the only one to bring this up. Jay Glazer brought this up as well and I believe Cimini did also. I think there is a lot of truth to this.
I think there is a lot of truth to this. The team is unsure of the QB situation at this point for next year and probably aren't going to know if Favre is coming back or not for another month. Within that next month they have to make a decision on a HC though. I think their feeling is if they retain Schotty there will at least be some continuity with the offense regardless of whether the quarterback is Favre, Clemens or Ratliff. Also Schotty has worked with Clemens and Ratliff for a few years and would be more capable of tweaking the offense to fit their needs. I also think if at the end of the year the offense breaks down again, then they can dump him and start over with a new OC and QB. Let's not forget they spent a lot of money for this team last year so they could win now. I'm not saying I love Schotty but I think this is the reason they want to retain him.
Yeah next we'll hear that Mangini was holding Sutton and Westhoff back. It's b.s... the OC was calling those idiotic plays.
I am fine with BS coming back as OC as long as BF is not a part of the deal. Rex seems like the type of coach that would let the OC run the show on offense.
I listened to Franesa and heard everyting the poster is referring to and he, IN NO WAY, implied that he had any inside information that Mangini consistently overruled Schotty. All he was saying was, "what if?". He was just playing devil's advocate with baseless speculation.
The only reason, besides Mikes contacts, I believe there may be something to this is because not only is there talk of retaining him if Ryan is hired but they interviewed him for the job. He is still regarded as a positive and you cant truly come to that conclusion watching his playcalling this year. Lets try to remember..this offense was NOTHING like last years offense of sending guys in motion...no huddle....calling plays on the fly. This was bringing in Brett Favre and letting his career dictate a totally different offense.
