That is, calling its defense or running it's offense, for an entire season, or seasons? Does a HC actually need a DC and/or an OC? When I watch Spagnuolo on the sidelines with his hands on his knees leering into the field like a 12th man, and barking out the specific play calls, I think to myself, "this guy needs to be doing exactly this." He needs to be into the Xs and Os, micromanaging playcalls, adjustments, tactics and strategic choices. He can't be cool and aloof, abstracted from that like a head coach, absorbed in the "total process". Any ideas?
I dunno . . . when I watch the Patriots I always see Bellicheck running over to his defense and coaching them on the sidelines while his offense is playing on the field and he isn't even watching. Does that help?
I'm pretty sure Gruden calls all the plays for Tampa. He always covers his mouth before every offensive play like he is sending it in. I think the jets are keeping Schotty as OC, or at least his offense, no matter what. I think they may offer Ryan the job if he keep Schotty as OC.
Didn't Wade Phillips call the defense late in the season? Also, this isn't in the NFL but Greg Schiano is the defensive coordinator as well as the head coach
