What follows is a list of the top three areas of need for all 32 teams, along with a comment or two about why each position is a priority for that respective team to address. The Jets employed a CB-by-committee approach to filling the spot opposite young star Darrelle Revis in 2008. It didn?t work. DE ? Defensive end is the one front-seven position the Jets haven?t appropriately addressed in their transition from the 4-3 to the 3-4. Shaun Ellis enjoyed a rebound season in 2008, but Kenyon Coleman doesn?t offer much. QB ? With Brett Favre unlikely to return, Kellen Clemens assumes starting honors. Kenyon Coleman is one guy who I don't think was mentioned once by any television broadcast this entire year. That could be a good thing or a bad thing.
he had a good year in the running D, but he can't push a pocket. Great 3-4 defenses can get pressure using just the front 3.... our stupid CS thought that because the Steelers and Ravens do it, so can we. But our front 3 aren't as good, so it failed almost all of the time. Getting a DE that can stop the run as good as coleman but is also able to go upfield is very important to the success of the defense.
I agree with that article, but I really think Clemens could be our guy. If not, Ratliff could have some potential; I don't want to spend another draft pick on a QB right now. I'd also like to see a decent safety join our ranks and I wouldn't mind picking up a power-back.
Clemens must not have shown much in training camp or in practice for the Jets to seemingly give up on him already. Pennington bascially beat him for the job before he was traded. Part of me says we should give him a shot. He only started 8 games for a horrible team, we have alot more talent now.
Do people really get paid to write crap like that? It's not that it's wrong, it's that it's like saying the sun will rise tomorrow. And Ellis had a rebound season? He disappeared the second half of the year. He's too small to be an effecitve 3-4 DE.
Some people are interested in the draft and which players could fall where, but don't follow every team's needs.. it isn't written solely for Jets fans..
absolutely agree on QB--don't even DRAFT a QB--Give what you got a chance--they need a WR and CB above all else.
A better pass rush would make our current CBs (the decent ones, Revis/Lowery/Poteat/Barrett) look a lot better.
I agree except for Barrett. That guy cannot be helped, he just stinks. To anyone watching the games its so obvious that Pass Defence is our top priority. However, people think its Lowerys fault. It isn't. He didn't look all that bad, Law was ok too. When you have an infinite amount of time to wait to throw a pass you are going to eventually find a reciever. Revis is just such a stud that one of the other recievers always got open first. Get another stud CB who is as good or better than Revis and eventually the Revis coverage will get blow too. We should draft 7 pass rushers and let them all compete, maybe pickup a couple of free agents too.
I agree. I actually like most of our LBs and I think different coaching and playcalling will make a huge difference in that department. More talented DBs and DEs certainly wouldn't hurt either.
Excuse me? Pennington defeated Clemens... There was actually the other way around. I even posted some news stories about it on a thread around two weeks ago. It's not that I'm sold for Clemens, I think he's cannon fodder, but the truth is the truth
Let's concentrate on the Defense right now......our offense is respectable right now with our current recievers and running backs - no matter who we plug in at QB
??? I read the exact opposite on more than one occasion over the summer. The Jets' beat reporters all seemed to be in agreement on one point: Pennington was outplaying Clemens. If you remember correctly, there was a stretch in training camp where Clemens was throwing at least one pick a day in their scrimmages.
You don't remember correctly. Pennington was winning the battle, which is part of the reason they went after Favre. And actually Rafliff played better than any Jet QB.
It was always the same reporter that said Pannington was winning, don't remember which one now. And yes, Ratliff was better in the preseason, and that's why I think they went or Favre. If your third qb is better than the two who were supposedly fighting for a spot then something is seriously wrong. I will check my past post and repost the link.
CP and KC were just about even with a slight edge to CP--CP couldn't get more than a FG and KC couldn't get it past the line of scrimmage. Then Ratliff came in and consistently drove down the field for 6. Some coaches may have given BR the nod but EM never seemed to consider it. Good riddance--BR earned the starting spot.
Yes, CB is a need, but you don't spend a first round draft pick on one. I'd prefer to sign a proven vet, like Asomugah (just an example). I'd go either S or WR, or maybe linebacker, provided the right guy is there.
The jets most pressing need is getting people who can get after the quarterback. You can have two all pro corners but if you can't get a pass rush guys are going to be open all day.
