Talking about the Jets. Is pissed at Mangini and Tannenbaum for the way went about releasing guys that helped the team win. Mentioned Sowell specifically. Saying why would you get rid of a locker room leader like Sowell who has been with the team for years and contributed in every way they asked (I'm paraphrasing)

I totally agree with him for Sowell, I believe other players had to be released but Sowell should be on the team. He is one of the best fullbacks (Dont understand why no one has signed him) and has been very faithfull to the team!!!
    Later,

I am almost certain both of those players were approached and asked to take a pay cut...neither of them did so neither of them are on the team.

Neither Mawae or Sowell made a lot of money, now that we have or 15+ mil or whatever it is of cap space, i dont understand why either were cut

Mawae is 35-36 and Sowell is very replaceable...I think Sowell wanted more money as well...

We will survive without an aging center and FB

To me they both brings great leadership and clubhouse leadership. I still value what Mawae could have been for a guy like maybe Nick Mangold who I think we may draft at #29. He could have provided a veteran support base for him and tought him the reads to be a center in the nfl, plus I dont think he's washed up yet. As far as Sowell, I think he is one of the best fullbacks in the NFL and is a lifetime Jet who had a career similar to Mangini path to becoming a coach. I doubt he wanted more money and he still is in his prime.

As far as I know Sowell was making minimum salary, so I guess he wanted a new contract? There is a reason noone signed him yet and I think the FO thinks Askew is better right now.
As for Mawae its a big loss, but every team loses an aging player due to cap situation/or whatever. I dont know why he is bashing the team I think we did him a favor by not having him play on a losing team next yr. Plus we cut him a month ago I thinks its time for him to get over it.

I loved Mawae and Sowell they were great players for us. But Mawae bashing us is messed up considering we asked both to take a pay cut and they both refused. Mike T has done a great job but now that you look back on it we could of kept Mawae but Sowell I heard wanted more money.

Let me first apologize by saying I'm pretty buzzed right now, just went out to dinner with the family and drank lots-o-wine.

Mawae was a great player for the Jets, that cannot be disputed. He is on the other hand a sh*& stirring A-hole. That is why he is not here. Bye Bye kevin ... you went and found a SB contender right, yeah thats what I thought you greedy Beoch.

I like Sowell, he was a good player but 100% forgettable.

when you are 4-12 in the salary cap driven NFL there are going to be casualties, good players still get cut, its business

You cant say Kevin Mawaes an asshole I met him. The truth is even though he should of taken the cut there were other players that should of been released instead of Mawae. Hes a pro bowl center and the best in the league so he feels disrespected to be asked to take a cut.

I can understand his point, but honestly, I don't care, I think this offseason has gone very well.

I also met Kevin Mawae and Curtis and Chad and McCarins and Abraham. big whoop. Kevin was the only arrogant SOB of the bunch. He WAS a pro bowl player and was a great Jet player, So was Gastineau. Should I feel bad for the way he went out too. Mawae was the Romanowski of Offensive Linemen.

I'm willing to bet that the Front Office knew before they put pen to paper that Mawae would not restructure and they probabley thought F-him, he's a locker room Sh*& stirrer anyway. Not gonna fly in the Mangini clubhouse.

I appreciate the service he gave the Jets, but lets not pretend he bleeds green. He was well paid for his work.

Look. This new regime is going to want the players they want, and if that meant cutting two very well liked Jets in Mawae/Sowell then so be it...

This isn't about making the fans happy on who they keep, Mangini wants the guys who will play at the highest level...

exactly. If this were about keeping the fans happy then you'd sign all the aging, but popular Jet players to ridiculous extensions that would screw the team for a good four years after those players are past their prime. I mean, who the hell would do that?!?!
