Wait, what? I don't understand your logic at the end there. If he TOOK an NFL job, then obviously he's the one in breach of contract because he's no longer working for BC. Going on an interview is not just cause for a firing no matter what way you slice it. Therefore, if it's in his contract that he's got guaranteed money coming his way, then he should get that money. If there's more to the story (a la the Lane Kiffin saga), then they can fire him with cause and not have to pay him a dime. You can't honestly say that you would go running to your employer saying "I'm looking for another job just so you know." Jags is just unlucky because it's a high profile job so BC's gonna find out about it. If I wanted to go to another company, I would schedule an interview on my own time. If I get an offer and decide to accept it, I then put in my two weeks. Otherwise, you keep your mouth shut b/c if you're not great at your job, what do they care if you're around? Telling them you're looking is just going to get you in trouble, so why bother? Jags went about it all the right ways. While it may be a negative in the eyes of recruits that the guy's looking to jump to the pros, that's not really his problem. They can fire him (I don't agree with the decision), but there's no just cause there. He wasn't negligent in his duties or anything like that, so it's a matter of he wasn't happy at BC. So why fire him? Why not just wait till he quits and takes an NFL job?
And that's how it should be. I don't understand why they didn't just wait for him to accept another job though. Why throw that kind of money away? To each their own I guess.
This wasn't about whether or not Jags knocked on Gene DeFilippo's door and courteously announced that he was interviewing with the Jets; this was about whether or not Jags LIED to DeFilippo when he was asked pointedly, "Are you looking for NFL jobs?" Beyond that, it's no secret that Jags just lost the second of his two biggest recruits right in his own backyard. Two four-star recruits up and walk to UNC and Georgia, and that doesn't sit very well in Chestnut Hill. So, when DeFilippo sees the guy he stuck his neck out to hire soliciting NFL jobs and being less than truthful about it (charitably worded), he saw no safe future for his recruiting and his football program with this coach. Long and short - he was rightfully fired.
ummm, yeah. That's what happens when you fire someone unless you can prove they breached their contract. The vast majority of the time when someone is fired, the rest of their contract is paid to them.
Well, there were plenty of rumors that said he had this clause and that clause and this agreement and that agreement...the bottom line was they had no choice but to pay and they will..that or cya in court.
He only appeared to be a good coach because of Matt Ryan. i think Jagz is good at coaching QBs (Matt Ryan in college and Brett Favre in GB). Also, BC's QB was injured this year and he had to start a Frosh at QB. He did look ok, even though he was young and not a highly recruited kid. He coached BC to two consecutive ACC championship games, but lost both to VT. And he just lost to Vandy in the bowl game, and that was like Vandy's 1st bowl win ever
He is also an idiot because he thinks he is going to get a head coaching job in the NFL, which he most likely will not. He will go back to being an OC for some team and he'll be stuck with that gig for awhile. He won't be able to back out on another contract with what just happened to him at BC
it will be like back when daddy ryan punched gilbride during a game because his offense and offensive calls sucked balls. that would be fun, but having a suck ass offense is not worth the humor. not that any of this would EVER happen, first because you cant move laterally when under contract and who the f would want to move laterally from a very good playoff team and a super bowl winner to a team that didnt make the playoffs.
