I just read the ESPN article about Reggie Bush visiting the Jets today and I was surprised that it actually sounded as if they are optomistic about the Jets chances to land him. The rest of the news I have heard about this workout were just describing the visit as a formality but this specific one says that Bush would like to come to the Jets and that he might fall to that second pick. This is just the general feel I got from the article. Also, just to add my two cents on Cutler. The workout looked like it went good and he was questioned about how he would be able to adjust to windy Giants Stadium. If we couldn't trade up to get Bush (which is probably not going to happen), I would be all for trading down a few spots to draft Jay Cutler. Every workout he has gone through has been perfect yet there are still people that doubt him. He may not be as battle tested as Leinart or Young but his arm strength is great. I tried to vary this up a little, sorry if its the same thing everyone else is saying.
Jets | R. Bush conducts impromptu workout Tue, 18 Apr 2006 14:16:58 -0700 ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports USC RB Reggie Bush was asked by the New York Jets Tuesday, April 18, to perform an impromptu workout. Bush, on very short notice, acquiesced to the request, and ran some pass routes for the Jets as part of the team's on-field session with USC QB Matt Leinart. The Jets' contingent, comprised of general manager Mike Tannenbaum, head coach Eric Mangini and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, had been originally scheduled only to interview with Bush and the meeting was not to include any on-field work. Sources at the workout said that Bush moved effortlessly through the session and caught the ball well. There is a suspicion that, if he is not the top pick, Bush would be intrigued by playing in New York, in part because of the marketing potential there.
I'm not going to touch the subject of Bush to the Jets, which I still see as i highly, highly improbable bordering on totally impossible but I will say that I liked Pasquarelli's article. He's often annoying but this time he just layed out the facts and made sure to keep Jets fans from getting their hopes too far up.
When you look at the Texans roster, they just signed Domanick Davis to a long term extension and they have a pro bowl return man from last year, they really don't need Bush. They need a tackle and a defensive end more than they need a guy like Bush. Why spend all that money on Bush just to get fans in the stands. Wins will get fans in the stands too. I think if the Jets have any chance to land Bush, whether its through a trade or not, they will pull the trigger.
Listen. If he fell past the first slot, slots two and three would be getting some insane offers from other teams in my opinion.
I don't even want to touch that because Bush will NEVER fall to #4. we would need to trade up to #2 to get him if Houston didn't draft him - which is still highly improbable - but if he did fall to #4 we wouldn't have to trade out of that spot. We already have 2 1st round picks, so there really isn't much of a need to get out of that spot IF Bush and only Bush was there at #4. (In other words, I'd trade that 4 pick if anyone else was there)
I have not read ONE article about the Jets visiting with anybody in which they didn't make it sound like that player would likely be our selection.
Only way we get Bush is the .3% chance that Houston doesn't draft him and if we traded up to slot #2 prior to Houston's pick (before he falls). On top of that, our FO probably will have moved up to get Leinart, so with our target already set I'm not sure of how the FO would handle Bush falling to them;would they draft him or just get Leinart anyway? Such a small chance of it happening, yet I still drool over the possibility of it happening.
Id like Bush at 4 but if not him we still can land either Leinart, Mario, or Davis. All damn good prospects that Id be more than happy to take
I'd be happy with any of those three after Bush too, but I still think they will take D'brick, who I don't want just cause it's so, unglamorous of a pick.
Also, kudos to Bush for going along with the workout. He didnt have anything to prove, he didnt even have to do so much as even lace up, but he did all that and more. Im sure many prospects wouldve flat out refused...I really do admire Bush for accepting, I mean it, Im truly impressed
That's a truly well though out rationale for not selecting the best OT in the draft. So unglamourous. Perhaps you would like to play flag football.
Let me just say this, I just got back from dinner and Finished off a bottle of Pinot Grigio by myself, so I have a major buzz. That Reggie MutherFu*&in Bush is by far the best damn offensive prospect I have ever Fu&&ing seen. He is Barry Fu*&ing Sanders and Jerry MutherFu*&ing Rice rolled into one. Does he have to have Superstar tatooed on his Fu*&ing forehead for you A-holes to realize this ... watch his highlight videos, you will get wood. If there really is any chance of the Texans not taking him, like say the entire front office started smoking crack, we should package our first born for his end-zone flipping ass. Seacrest Out !
ESPN had a draft special on earlier tonight and they were saying that Houston might not even want Bush. They said that they haven't even talked to him about a contract but they have talked to Super Mario and his agent about a possible contract offer! Now that could just be a smoke screen but like sigmaxjet said they have signed Davis to a long term deal! I do not have a thread to support this but it is what I heard! I too wouldn't mind trading the pick down a few spots to take Cutler. (that is if Bush isn't there)
Casserly was on the NFl Network draft preview today, and though it may be a smoke screen he does seem to want Mario more than Bush. He said that any other draft Mario would be a clear #1 pick. They have Domanick Davis and I do think they want Mario. It is quite possible Bush will get passed on at 1.
