With as extensive as this search has been and the fact that we're dipping into the college pool I'm surprised his name hasn't come up. Experience in the NFL as a player and limited as a coach, has turned Stanford into a contender while having strict academic restrictions. Dad was a head coach and brother has the Ravens playing well. I'm not saying he's an ideal candidate but I think he'd be worth bringing in.
Head coaching record Year Team Overall Conference Standing Bowl Rank# Stanford Cardinal (Pacific 10 Conference) (2007–present) 2007 Stanford 4–8 3–6 T-7th 2008 Stanford 5–7 4–5 7th Stanford: 9–15 7–11 I really don't consider that "contending" IMHO. If that is contending, I'd rather he not contend as part of the Jets.
That team was awful when he took them over - in 2009, they should win 7 to 9 games with Harbaugh's recruits.
Jim Harbaugh was one of my favorite players back in the 90s. hes got fire and a passion for the game. As for a coach.....id still like someone with more backround as a coordinator or coach tho.
How about Jim Harbaugh Thoughts?? Risky but since no legit coach wants to come here he may be a good choice.
Harbaugh is a good college coach, and he's from a well respected NFL family tree. Man I hope we hire someone good.
Captain Comeback!.........i always enjoyed watching Jim play..........he was a gamer, played with heart.
Nobody will say he was great, but he was good. He did take multiple Vikings teams to the playoffs and he did it with multiple quarterbacks.
what's your definition of a legit football coach that isn't applicable to the coaches that are taking interviews? if it is simply a coach that has a proven track record of winning games in the NFL as a head coach, I am more than happy to dispute that as the only definition of a legit coach, as well as the practice of only being interested in such as a coach.
15-1 disputes your position. he may not have been the greatest coach, but to claim he didn't do that great is simply dishonest. by that logic, Bill Parcells was terrible for us that same season, we made it just as far but were only 12-4.
I really hope the front office doesn't think like the OP. It's not that I have anything against Harbaugh, but I'm a Stanford alum and love what he's doing up there. To the poster who simply quoted records, ever since Ty Willingham left, Stanford has been in an absolute tailspin. Harbaugh has turned it around without relying on his own recruits, and has had a few huge wins. Just wait until some of the newer talent starts playing (like Andrew Luck, huge QB recruit out of Texas who redshirted this past season). There was some talent coming in, but the school places academic restrictions on its recruits that are above any other school in FBS. A kid I know punts for them right now and I helped to get him interested in the school. He was the #1 recruited punter AND kicker in the nation his senior year. He had a 3.8 unweighted GPA. He was told he'd be offered a scholarship only if he scored a 1250 on the Math and Reading components of the SAT. Granted, most Stanford students need a 1400+ on those sections to qualify, but NCAA clearinghouse is only at 800. According to David, the lowest bend on the team was 1200. It's a big reason why football is the only sport to generally fail at Stanford. Football isn't generally known as a sport for the academic genius, and you're forced to field 22 starters plus ST skills players. Much easier to find 11 guys to fill out your entire basketball team, etc. Harbaugh is a great college coach. He gets fired up and his enthusiasm is infectious. I'm not sure he'd succeed right now as an NFL coach. He could use a few more seasons in college before he starts thinkinga bout that.
Harbaugh as a QB or OC I wouldn't mind, but HC would be a big stretch right now. In his future he would probable be a decent HC but not right now. Just waite for REX and pull the f@cken trigger!
