Oh, my bad. Yes, in that case Favre definitely should have been going out to dinner with his teammates since he could have been using HUDDLE at the restaurant. It would have been rude of him to bring a memorization book, but a laptop with HUDDLE changes everything. And since it's interactive and user-friendly he absolutely could have been using it in the loud locker room in between towel snaps to his teammates asses. How dare they give him a private office since he was using HUDDLE. The organization probably provided him with a laptop as well. I'm surprised his teammates aren't complaining about that.
In recent years Favre had chosen to spend more time with his family. He also no longer drinks. If not going out for dinner and drinks with teammates after having spent all morning and afternoon with them is being "distant", then so be it.
""He never socialized with us, never went to dinner with anyone," the player said. Asked to describe Favre in a word, he said: "Distant."" Maybe I'm not supposed to say this, but this doesn't sound like Ebonics to me. I figure whoever said this was an OLinemen, a kicker or a backup QB. My money is on Clemons.
ok, that makes sense. I can't imagine that being the root of whatever rift there may or may not be in the locker room though. wow
He likely spent much more time with the coaches than Pennington would in years past due to the fact that he came to the Jets in August. Some players on the team probably compared Favre to Pennington and in this regard, Favre probably did appear to be distant. If Favre comes back in 2009 I would expect that he would be more comfortable with his teammates and they would be more comfortable with him.
i love this place sometimes. first lets go after coles, sure nobody likes him. then we can say it must have been baker because he sucks too. now its thomas jones because he said someone who doesnt do their job should sit down... or it could be woody. there was even a faneca in there to go with a rhodes. i think it was mangold because he has long hair and brett doesnt like him because its not gray. on a side note... this EXACT same thing was talked about last year in green bay. same EXACT thing! http://www.greenbaypressgazette.com/article/20090101/PKR07/90101031/1058/PKR01 "That is strikingly similar to the situation in Green Bay during his final years here. Is it any wonder Thompson and McCarthy were ready to move forward? No player, even someone with Favre’s resume, should be greater than the team." call them pussies if you want but if you go to work and have to work as a team all the time and one of your coworkers is in suckin the bosses dick all day and getting special perks even though he doesnt do his job to help your team accomplish your goals. guess what you probably will be a little pissed. and willing to complain about it... i highly doubt you would go out in an all company meeting and stand up and say it though. so stfu and quit complaining about it.
as usual... espn went ahead just now and told half of the thomas jones story, picking out the clips from his interview that suited their bullshit type of reporting. then to hear mark schlereth ride favres dick all the way home was actually kinda disgusting.
seriously? does every wr or skill position player speak "ebonics" is that what you are trying to say? or is it just those mentioned in the thread? does every kicker not speak ebonics? this post is actually a little over borderline. and i must say i am a little disappointed.
you know i have never reported a post in all the time i have been on this board, and it was since about the 2nd day it existed. but i DID report your post as it is over the line and you dont seem to give a crap. although many have undertones i havent ever seen anyone just come out and say something like that.
I think it's good the players are pissed; Favre should know these guys won't tolerate half-assed effort and arrogance. This is why I don't want Favre back he doesn't give a fuck about NYJ. We need a new QB.
i think that the stuff that is coming out will definitely play a part in his decision, i also think we need to move on. and i really cant see favre coming back next year. his body is worn down, like they keep saying he doesnt have anything in common with any of the people he spends the greater part of his days with, he does have kids going to college and almost the same age as many of his co workers. he just doesnt fit into the league right now. in any locker room. only his own personal wants will bring him back, but i think that has finally passed. i am with you and look forward to what the next qb will bring to the franchise!
^ I remember one of the Packer fans posting here that Favre had his own private area in the Green Bay locker room. I don't remember which one but he clarified saying it was so Favre could take some of the pressure away from his teammates and so that the media could get Favre one on one and not have to deal with any obstacles. If I had to place a bet I'd put my money on Faneca, he is a guy that just signed a mega deal and obviously would have quite a bit to lose. He's also getting up in age so he knows his clock on winning another SB is ticking. He's also been around the game long enough to know that QB's are supposed to have a great relationship with their OL you know buy them watches and shit for Xmas. My bet is Faneca didn't like the Swatch Favre gave him for Xmas.
When I read this I immeadiatley thought of Farve in GreenBay with his private locker room and the players calling him distant..............
Again - Who gives a rats ass if he is "distant". This isn't high school, this is the NFL. Everybody doesn't have to be buddies. What matters is whether the team wins football games - and that is all that matters.
You have contradicted yourself. A team is just that -- a group playing in unison, not a collection of self-interested individuals "working at the same time." Locker room chemistry can make lunch-bucket level players play above their talent level, and lack of it can bring supposed superstars down to mediocrity. Ergo lies the Jets' problem this year, and why a group of no-talent hacks in Miami made it to the second season.
A team doesn't have to go out to dinner together and go clubbing together in order to be a team. He doesn't drink, he's a 39 year old family man - he isn't gonna go running around with 20 something single guys. The team is together at practice and in meetings and elsewhere 7 days a week. Just because somebody doesn't go to dinner with you doesn't mean that they aren't a teammate. And don't forget the Team voted Farvre thier captain so while there may be some whiners - not everybody thinks he's "distant".
Nah, sorry Salam, you are out of touch. If a new guy comes into any organisation, business, sports whatever, cultivating good relationships is a must. If you look over at the AFC champs 2008 you'll find that Chad is a natural leader and is loved throughout the team and organisation. Farve has come in here and totally screwd our team. I hope he has the good grace to retire soon. Good riddance.
