lol@ everyone saying 2 years ago.. this is a what have you done for me lately business.. thats why he never regain his starting job last year.
I personally LOVE barrett. I love his work ethic, and his desire. I love his run stopping and tackling ability. I love the big plays that he makes in big situations. Being off a receiver is not him, its where he's supposed to be. Our defense was not that good last year and instead of playing aggressive like we did the year before, we played conservitively. Defensive players spoke out about how donnie henderson had different schemes last year than the year before and that they were not nearly as aggressive and how they hated it. I think it was more herman edwards than donnie, but still.. players have to play their positions . He has made some big plays for us and I will not forget that. I think he deserves the start over miller, but I guess we'll see. deflected passes in big situations time and time again (despite being burned ON OCCASION).. we really tend to remember those times more than the good ones around here and its sad. Here's some examples: against the texans in 04, 4th down long pass to andre johnson was broken up by him. him shutting down hines ward in the steeler playoff game and having that INT. The fumble against JAX in 05 that he caused which kept us in the game. Theres plenty more.. Besides that.. I've watched this guy practice and have been very impressed with the way he plays. He's too undersized to convert to safety.. I don't think that's really an option. I really just dont understand how so many jet fans don't like him when he was such a huge part of our defensive overhaul success in 04. Damn it.. im a david barrett fan and proud of it.
He looked bad because of Herm and Donnie making all their DBs give 5 yard cushions to the WRs. I think he can be a very strong CB.
i like barrett, he will regain is form under the new regima dn become more consistent, he has shut down Gates and Burress and is still farely young, I do think that Miller and him will plsit time next season and Strait will for sure be the nickle back
I like Barrett as well. I think that he got off to slow start last year thanks to the scheme of playing 10 yards off the receiver. Ty Law coming in with the drafting of Miller actually hurt him. Law was the #1 no doubt about it but when you draft a corner like Miller that early, he has to get a chance to play and the only way that would happen was at Barretts expense. In 2004, he was challanged to become the #1 CB and to cover the other teams #1 receiver. In 2005, with Law, he had no chance to be the main guy and that affected his play. He does seem to play better when presented with a challange. I also think that he is not the type of player suited for the nickel or dime spot. It is either starter or bust for him.
I like Barrett. First of all he was picked on last year because Law was on the other side. You cant make plays on every play. Does he make mistakes yes. But so did Otttis Smith until he started to play for Belicheck. ALl our current dbs will play better because of Mangini.JUST WAIT AND SEE HOW MUCH BETTER OUR SECONDARY WILL BE NO MATTER WHOS BACK THERE.
Barrett has been an improvement over past years. I am happy to have him, I think he is a very tough cat and that is what we need.
before the steelers playoff game burress pretended he didn't know who barrett was, then barrett shut him down big time. barrett isn't the greatest cb but he's decent in the red zone and was also good in the 04 playoffs. he's better than ty law with his bullshit 10 picks last year.
he's a big time player who steps up to challenges and in big games and at big spots....it's the times when he's against a lesser quality receiver that he seems to slack off...i think that he just has a focus problem sometimes, and competition will be great for him in training camp, he will come out a starter, i'm positive
i gotta chime in on a positive note for the barret....not great...love his work ethic and commitment and he seems to come to play every week....he certainly has mental lapses and a guy will burn him once in a while...but to start a whole post to kill the guy?i dont see it...not as long as justin mccareins is on this team.....if the jets continue to build depth at cb i think barret should certainly have a spot on the team
Hot and Cold The general consensus is that he has the potential but has off days. From what I've seen of him that is about right. Was he a Top 10 draft pick of ours, no. He was a FA pickup. I can live with him, yeah I'd rather have a young Ty Law and Champ Bailey but you get what you pay for and he was a good pickup.
that would be great if donnie abraham didn't retire last year and we had ty law too. We would have one of the best secondarys in the league then. I guess David Barrett has his moments were he's alright, but as a whole he's very inconsistent. Why did Donnie Abraham retire anyway, anyone no?
His heart just wasnt in it anymore. Btw, Barrett clearly outplayed Abraham in 04. D-Abe would have been relegated to nickel back and possibly dime as Law would have been signed anyway and then with Barrett, Miller, Strait and Mickens, he really didnt have a place on the team. I think he would have been a cap casualty in TC.
We were probably in a Cover 3 defense where his responsibility would have been the deep third with another player (LB, nickel or dime back) repsonsible for the flats on his side. Get a freaking clue. HTH & TIA.
yea man, good call. corner dont just play man to man on every play and people don't seem to understand that.
Daved Barrett and Ty Law were the starting CB's last season. Barrett (5) and Law (10) had 15 INT's. Dyson (1) and Miller (1) between them had ONE INT. Two Minute Warning publishes a list of defensive players in the NFL and rates them on quality defensive plays. Dyson is near the bottom of the list and Justin Miller is ranked dead last of hundreds of defensive players evaluated. Anyone who thinks Dyson and Miller are an upgrade over Barrett and Law knows about as much about football as Woody Johnson. http://www.twominutewarning.com/d05rtg.htm
