I would stick with Clemens and Ratliff to duke it out and see who plays better. But if i have to try and get a QB i would go with Cassel or Anderson? Are there any other QBs out there?

Clemens and Ratliff battle for the mantle. Jeff Garcia can be the stopgap. As long as we keep a solid running game we can actually work on building other parts of the team and hold off on spending big money on a QB until we have our coaching situation set in the next couple of years.

I'd rather throw Ratliff, Clemens or Ainge out there and see what he can do that get Derek Anderson (who sucks), Matt Cassel (who looked much better than he actually is) or Jeff Garcia (who is pretty much done at this point).

yeah i agree with you on that. I would still draft a QB in the draft. I really like Teebow for his leadership and he knows how to make good decisions and can move in the pocket and there is no quit in that kid. I totally for got we had Ainge. I would really like to see them battle it out. Plus we gotta see who the coach is going to be because those qbs may not be a qb that coach wants just like in Miami when parcells went out and got a veteran in pennington.

Draft a QB or give Clemens or Ratliff a shot. No more of these 35 and older QB's playing for us.

The only way I would accept an older QB coming in here would be if it was for 1 year to groom a young QB like Ratliff (because it appears they like him over Clemens now) or a QB you draft

Let's keep bringing in old QB's to groom the young QB's year after year. Then when the young QB's have enough grooming, they will be old QBs and ready to play for the Jets!!!!!

It's enough that we put up with an over the hill Testaverde for all those years and now the Favre disaster. Let's compound it by bringing in Garcia!!! The young QBs are groomed by playing. Clemens has held a clipboard long enough and Ratliff can only learn on the field.

I'm a complete Favre supporter. However, if I had to choose somebody to replace Favre; I would be comfortable with Ratliff. He has a good amount of Pre-Season experience, and he's spent a year under Favre, and has had time to learn the playbook. If not Ratliff, then let Ainge and Clemens battle it out, although I really dislike the idea of Clemens starting for us. I think he'll be a career backup the rest of his career. I also don't like the idea of drafting a rookie QB, it's pointless. It can be hit or miss, you can end up with the next Tom Brady, or the next Charlie Frye. Not to mention the fact that they have no NFL experience, and only have a couple months to learn an entire new system, in a league where even mediocre players would be considered stars in college. People saying we need to draft a rookie QB really need to take it easy, we need to develope what we have already and stop putting unproven guys ahead of people who deserve a real shot. Like Ratliff.

I'm not trying to tout Garcia as the saving grace of this team as Favre was regarded by most of the media. All I'm saying is that if Favre retires and we actually wind up with cap space, it would be good to have a back-up plan in case Clemens' development was irrevocably stunted by the past two season, Ratliff winds up struggling when pitted against a starting defense for once, and Ainge winds up struggling in what will essentially be another rookie season.

Garcia is still mobile, makes decent decisions, and doesn't have that gunslinger's mentality, all three of which I would consider upgrades over Favre. Due to his age he wouldn't be able to command too high of a salary and he could always be cut in TC if he struggles or gets beaten out by Ratliff or Clemens. I'm not going to be upset if we pass on him but I think he's worth a look at least. If we bring in a QB at this point we're going to be looking for experience and insurance, both of which Garcia would offer. Don't guarantee him a starting spot, just let him compete. If he beats out Clemens and Ratliff then we would have been right in looking elsewhere and if we wind up drafting a rookie, it'll be unlikely that they'll wind up having the success that Flacco and Ryan had this year. Impact rookie QBs are few and far between.

I say throw Ratliff or Ainge out there after an offseason of play study and prep work. they have the size and strength at QB and could be the next Cassel.

Clemens is not the answer! he was horrible last year and that was after two years of being on the bench.

We can discuss that when Favre is actually going to leave.

I don't think that our O-Line is up to the task of trying to protect Garcia. He's a mobile quarterback who is inconsistant when on the move. I've seen him make beautiful passes, but I've also had some "What the hell?" moments watching him play. He likes to try to make something out of nothing, and I'm not sure I'm ready for someone like that playing quarterback. This is my main reason for supporting Ratliff, in the Pre-Season he seemed to make very good decisions when faced with pressure. Where most rookie QB's would've tried to make something work, or fit the ball into tight coverage, he simply threw the ball away. I believe he has the mentality of someone like a Chad Pennington, with the arm of someone like a Joe Flacco or Matt Ryan. Given Favre's current performance I would also say he's an improvement over Favre, as well as a complete Anti-Clemens.

    I like Ratliff as well..

Only thing that I'm a bit apprehensive about is the fact that it took him so long to actually absorb the offense. That being said, if we get a new HC that brings in his own OC, then Ratliff will have to learn a whole new offense.

Hopefully he just needed time to adapt to a pro style offense.

Move on to what exactly??? Another disasterous year? The downfall of another coaching staff? Another year of not knowing whether the future QB is on the roster? Another year of 20+ interceptions?? Another year of wounded ducks??? Another year of pick sixes??? You call that moving on???? I call it hopeless.

We will be moving on to another top five pick in the 2010 draft that we can blow on the likes of a bum like Gholston!

There really isn't too much that needs to be switched up. I think the fact that Ratliff got a lot of hype during the Pre-Season made him really evaluate where he wants to be 2-3 years from now. I think he realizes now that he is just as capable as any young quarterback out there. Also, all that really needs to be changed is the play calling signals and audible calls. The Jets offense as it is right now does a good job of incorporating a lot of different sets, such as 4 or 5 wide, split sets, and I've even seen bunch formation a few times. I think Ratliff has had a good amount of experience with all these formations throughout the year in practice. Next year will be the time to really put him to the test in Pre-Season. I think we should alot a majority of the Pre-Season play time to Ratliff instead of Clemens. Let Favre and Ratliff split the play time, and give Clemens the garbage time at the end of the games.

Favre will retire this year. He is over the hill and has no juice left in him. Let how about McNabb? oh well. Ratliff, Ainge, and then Clemens lets keep it at that.

McNabb would be perfect for our team. Lets just hope that Philly runs him out of town soon.

I'd love Ratliff to be our next QB but I wouldn't put all of my trust in him yet. He's show great potential to be a mobile QB with a great arm and good decision making but he has yet to be tested against a starting caliber defense. It's one thing to beat the back of the roster, it's another thing to beat the front. I want him to excel but I'd like to see how he does against pass rushers, cover guys that have made pro-bowls and would be the typical competition of a starting QB. That will be his true litmus test and there isn't even a guarantee that the new coach will be willing to give him that shot.

He's also familiar with Spagnuolo if that's who the Jets manage to land during the Off-Season. I'm not really a huge McNabb supporter, I believe that he brings alot of problems with his attitude, is it not enough to have Law of Defense that we also need someone like this on Offense? McNabb is a great QB when he's running hot, but everything about the Offense is off when he's not running so hot. Having him around would be like a Soap Opera. I would much rather have a QB who is "OK" consistantly, than really good in some games, and really shitty in others.
