Your first point is a good one, and I've edited my post to that effect. I didn't think I'd need to clarify that but apparently I do, so it's done. Second, I can only blame Mangini to a limited extent if Woody forced Favre on him. I'm not in any way alleviating blame for the season from Mangini, all I'm pointing out is that the problems with this team go beyond Mangini even, all the way to the very top of the chain. Tell me, if dealing with QBs is so easy, then why would Cowher turn down the Jets simply because of Favre? The impression I'm getting is that Woody won't allow Favre to be benched. The guy was hurt for Christ's sake but they still played him. Cowher clearly sees something with the Jets that he does not want Favre as the guy if he were to come here. If Woody's position is that Favre must play, then it is a Woody problem, not a Mangini problem.
Only the younger guys can be thinking W is a "bad" owner. The guy has his motives and they are of course to make money. But all owners have that motive (Cuban, maybe the exception since he's swimming in it). The difference with Woody is that his philosophy is that if the Jets are a winner, he makes more money. This is not a universal ownership philosophy. Many owners, including Hess, sought to maximize cash flow in any one year. This meant filling up the stadium and keeping expenses as low as possible. In fact, Hess could not give less of a shit about the fans. He was of the old school whereby the owners were entirely separate from the fans. W cares about the fans because he believes its in his best interest that the fans be happy. This is the best possible ownership philosophy we can ask for. Shitting on W is irrational. Everybody can't win every year. He's done an excellent job of putting us in a position to win and his decisiveness in firing EM was awesome. Give him a chance. Geez--its only been 3 days! And fuck Cowher. If someone doesn't want us, to hell with them--I don't want them.
Most of the people that think Woody is a bad owner are the older crowd that can see through the bullshit smokescreen.
The Jets are one of the departments that are failing in that business. And I'll root for whomever the fuck I please, and gripe about it, and you can't do a goddamned thing about it.
no your right i would much rather have an owner who puts no money into the team and pockets the excess $$$ instead of spending it on coaches and players
Sorry Abyz--I just can't buy that. Maybe it turns on our definition of "older". I'm talking about guys who experienced us moving to Jersey and therefore, experienced Hess for several years before his "repentance".
*BARF* I like you dude, but after the events of the past few months and especially the past few days, all bright flaming arrows are pointing straight in the direction of BobWood "Millen" Johnson. There is no time left for the "it's not you, it's me" speech.
Thanks Abyz for turning me onto this thread.... I am with you guys, after reading all the reasons Cowher wanted no part of this disaster it dawned on me that the owner is the obstacle. He is the reason for failure, maybe not on the field but in the organization. I am done giving any of my money to this team, I will still watch them and root for them but until they show me they are serious about winning and not just selling PSL's which anybody with half a brain knew was the sole reason behind bringing Favre here to begin with I am done. No Sunday Ticket, no jerseys, no hats, no cross country trips to see them play. My kid just had his picture taken with Santa in his Jets gear, it's a tradition, consider it over I am steering my son as far away from the Jets as possible. Go root for an organization that wants to be successful on the field. Like I said I am a Jet fan through and through and I will still watch this team but as far as giving them any of my hard earned cash even for little things like Xmas ornaments....... fuck that. I give my money to the Chargers as a season ticket holder (which I sell the tickets of course as I am no Charger fan) I watched this team start 4-8 yet never quit when most teams including the one I root for folded. They have one of the worst coaches in NFL history yet somehow made the playoffs after starting 4 and fucking 8. The scary thing is they can knock the Colts out of the playoffs and who knows what happens from there. We are 8-3 and just knock off 2 of the Big Dogs in the AFC and somehow finish 1-4 down the stretch. Then they have an oppurtunity to bring in one of the few guys that can turn this thing around he says no becuase Woody needs Favre in there. My stoamch is turning because of this mess, why because I care about this team, I pour my heart into this franchise and have since I was 5 years old in 1984. I just don't see the team giving a shit about me and not me personally, me the fan the guy that flies cross country every year to see the Jets play or the idiot who goes to Seattle to watch a 13-3 game a fucking blizzard. We need to stand united as Jet fans on this, don't give this franchise anymore of your dollars. Spend it on your kids, your wife, your dog, your RV a vacation just don't give it to Woody. I know I wont, instead of planning my trip to Jersey for the Meadowlands final season I am going to take a cruise next fall. I am done supporting mediocrity instead of superiority.
According to reports, Woody has stated it's not manditory for Favre to be the starter, next season. Maybe all the feelers he's putting out to candidates are coming back with the same question. "Does Favre have to be my QB"?
The problem with that is that it's a desperation move. Woody really honestly thought Cowher would come here and be ok with being told that Favre was going to be his QB and Tanny was going to be involved in personel decisions. Now that the only guy they wanted told them to get lost Woody is backing himself into a corner, now he is also alienating Favre by throwing him under the bus. It's not that I give a shit about Favre it's I don't like the message. 1st it's Favre is my guy so deal with it now it's Favre pfffftt screw him, if you want him gone he's gone.
