Tannenbaum must have pictures on Woody. There is no other reason I can think of that he wasn't fired along with Mangini.
So, who in the hell can fix this whole mess? Not getting Cowher is just another dagger driven deep into the heart of us fans. Because i believe he would have rightened the ship. It happens on the field. If he woulda taken the job, had some input, which i'm sure he would have on the roster, I'm sure he would take this team to the playoffs next season. Then maybe getting more involved in the FO. Because those bumbling idiots need to be shown the way! Sad, but true. I like Tanny, but he seems to be Woodys puppet. Wheres the leadership in that?
Shanahan could fix it but like people have said here he would still want total control and that isn't happening. Other than that, Parcells obviously could but who knows what will happen with him, when it will happen and even if he would be interested.
No I disagree with U. All Woody wants is our $$$$$$$$$$$$$$ winning means zippo to him as he has already proven after 9 seasons of ownership
Right. Which means we'll have a new HC every 2 years instead of every 3-5. He's not going to sell his PSLs to the little man, that is for sure. So, once he's edged out all of the common die-hard fans and sold half the seats to huge corporations who give the tickets away to their employees who couldn't give a shit about the Jets if you paid them to, then maybe there will eventually, say, 10-15 years down the line, be something respectable on the field. When no one in the stadium cares.
Guys, sorry to tell you but you'll all be back for next season. Hope will reborn with whoever the new HC is and we will all start start rooting as passionately as always. That's the reality of the fans everywhere in every sport.
Come on, it could be a lot worse. At least we've played meaningful games in December under Woody. We could be the Bengals or the Lions. Now those are teams in need of an ownership change. Remember, the sale of the Jets came down to Woody Johnson and James Dolan. Just imagine if Cablevision owned them.
The reality is, I'm not spending almost $250 additional dollars for the Sunday Ticket anytime soon. I'm not buying any merchandise either. Just like Woody made his decision based on dollars, so am I. It just doesn't make sense anymore to spend that kind of money to watch the Jets when all I need is the replay on NFLHD. When this franchise finally "gets it", I'll reconsider. Until then, Woody can throw all his money away on his "toy". I won't.
I'm sure they are losing alot of sleep over this. All the Jets did was spend. Nothing to complain about.
1/3rd sold and under 2 years left to sell the rest? Yeah, I'd say he was a bit concerned especially with the economic forecasts for '09 being pretty grim.
We see now why Parcells bolted when Leon died, and Belichek shortly after. They saw this coming. Woody is not public like Jerry Jones or Al Davis... but I'm beginning to think he is exactly like Al Davis the past few years. Maybe Mangini actually was handcuffed to Favre. This seems like a Woody decision, a Woody desire. If that is actually the case, then you can't blame anyone but Woody. If Woody really is a quiet Al Davis, then I officially have lost all hope. I'm honestly very happy that I didn't send the money in for the playoff tickets, and they can sure as hell count me out for sending money in for next season's tickets either. I hope a lot of fans do as I do. Woody will respond to one thing, and that is his bottom line being hurt. Honestly Woody, how dumb do you think we really are? You really think we pay to see Brett Favre play? We don't give a flying fuck who plays, as long as they win. So get your dirty hands off this team, and bring in the people who will win. If Cowher doesn't want to use Favre, then Favre can sit his old ass on the bench. Favre may have sold lots of jerseys, but at the end of the day most Jets fans are smart enough to realize he isn't the one who will lead us to the promised land, and we won't pay for a subpar performance, even from a legend such as Favre. As long as Woody maintains business as usual, consider this team to be sunk.
There are a couple of things here that require a response. Firstly, Al Davis was a great owner - one of the best of all time - when he had his faculties together and the Raiders were one of the great franchises for a long, long time. So to call Woody an Al Davis without qualifying the statement with "of the last few years" is not an insult and is frankly ridiculous since there's no way Woody is as good as Al Davis was 10 years ago (and for 40 years before that.) It wasn't fun being a fan of the Raiders during a lot of Davis's tenure but that's not because they weren't winning, it was because he was focused on the dollars above all else. Secondly, if Mangini was handcuffed to Favre that was his OWN fault. Nobody told him to suck so badly at dealing with QB's last year that the owner lost confidence in his ability to do that singularly most important thing that a head coach does and bring in a hired gun with a resume a mile long.
