This is the kind of guy that sees the big picture.

Mike Nolan must have blown the 49ers away to beat this dude.

I like both of these guys, but this is the Jim Schwartz thread. I like the fact that he's a guy who doesn't think stats are stupid. He seems to see the big picture better than most.

I think Schwartz will be a HC at some point, and very likely a good one. But why would Woody fire Mangini -- a first time coach -- and replace him with a non marquee guy? To me, the firing is all about the new stadium, and building the hype. That's why RWJ and Tannenbaum have manlove for Favre -- justified or not. They perceive his presence as creating the buzz they need.

I think this whole thing smells of Parcells -- Parcells will get his money, he'll get it in the NY market, he'll live close to the Florham Park site, he's the only one who will tame Favre or the only one who will have Favre's respect. Then RWJ has his perfect scenario: a Hall of Fame duo in advance of the new stadium.

He's also very statistically oriented. He contributed to Football Prospectus and writes articles for FootballOutsiders.com. He seems really awesome. He has a much better resume than Mangini did.

i just can't see the hiring of a non marquee name without some pedigree of winning

What if Tennessee wins the Super Bowl this year? Schwartz would then have a ring as a defensive coordinator.

Another non-marquee name is Leslie Frazier. He has two rings- one as a player and one as a coach.

If the Jets hire a rookie head coach, it is likely the guy will have come from a winning background. The Jets are not hiring somebody off the Lions staff.

Tennessee is the #1 seed in the AFC, a team built on defense. Works for me.

So then, should the Jets hire Seahawks defensive coordinator John Marshall?

Dware...you and I are finally on some common ground....Schwartz deserves a shot. When Haynesworth/Vandenbosch went down...their backups came in against Pittsburgh and played brilliant football. Sign of a good coach.

But some do. Since this franchise seems to like testing everyone out and hope they have that magic spark...he's a legit candidate.

I'd be satisfied if he was the choice.

The only Tenn game I watched this year was their game against the Jets, they did not look good. Haynesworth is a great player in a contract year or something, he had that weird clause in his contract where if he makes the pro bowl he can opt out of his contract and become a FA. So he played his balls off. And quotes from players saying the coach is cool don't impress me, its in the nature of sports for players to stick up for their coaches. Even a guy like Mangini gets Jenkins and Coles to say good things for him after he's fired, and both those players have reputations, somewhat dubious, of being trouble makers.
