Those are nothing but excuses, as bad as the coaching was and it was bad. If Favre had a halfway decent year the Jets win the division in spite of the coaching.
I voted yes. There's just too much money invested in veteran players to allow for Clemens/Ratliff/rookie growing pains. Favre will give us a better chance to win next year than any of the above.
My answer is no, but I don't know what FAs are available right now, so I'm not sure which no to vote for yet.
How is it even realistic to blame the QB for getting picked off on bad throws when he's expected to make more than he should realistically be asked to? Leon Washington had 76 carries this year. Seventy-six. Think about that for a moment. That averages out to 4.75 carries a game. Thomas Jones had 290. That averages 18.13 carries a game. The Jets were nineteenth in NFL this year in rush attempts per game. They ran the ball an average of 26.4 times per game. Whereas, they passed the ball 33.1 times. Now if you agree that we have one of (if not the) best running back tandems in the sport, why would you not see a problem with passing the ball on over half of our plays from scrimmage? Blaming Favre when every defense in the league knows he's throwing the ball is ridiculous.
I will say this... if Favre does come back... give him the benefit of the doubt. He WAS awful for the most part this year, but I still attribute a lot of that to coaching. If we get a coach like Cowher, they won't allow Favre to be out of control like he was at the end of the year. Mangini actually put the clamps on Favre for a few weeks, and we got the Tennessee game out of it. But Favre went wild again, yet the offense kept calling on #4 to get the job done. This is poor scheming. With an entire offseason to work with the new coach, Favre should be much better prepared for next season. I would say he'll be much more focused as well. I believe he won't be nearly as bad next year under the right coaches if he decides to go for one more season.
I've been complaining all year that we haven't run the ball nearly enough, I blame the coaches for continuing to rely on a terrible Qb but I can't blame the coaches for the QB being terrible.
Exactly. I'm defending Favre, who I do believe played poorly, but you can only ask for so much from anyone. If you're not going to have an OC who is going to call intelligently, you can't blame the QB for that. Even Tom Brady would suck in our offense under Schottenheimer.
Let me answer that by saying: "Chad didin't get his career high in passing until he left here and Brett threw for one of his career highs just one year before he got here" Pretty obvious now that Chad nor Brett are not the problem here. Give either one of them the right game plan and weapons and they will perform. Until this changes, it won't matter what QB revolving door you have to kep you happy. Bring back Brett to let him finish what he started is my vote....but I don't think we will be so lucky this time. Just have to start enjoying that revolving door of "Magical QB's" that are supposed to turn this team into a SB contender overnight................Good Luck !!! Brett and a few tweaks are the Jets best option for a SB run next year and that's the bottom line !!!
Favre was a huge problem this year but at the end of the day, the team is much better off moving on with the coaches rather than the QB. If Favre retires, that is fine, but if he comes back, we CAN succeed with him.
