It also shows how much he actually knows about football. Ya know i really began to think about his knowledge after the game in NE. Favre said something, that to me, was alarming. He said Mangini is a typical defensive coach. He said something about remember that play, but Mangini didn't know the play. Should he have some idea of whats going on on offense?
Yeah, f Mangini. I'm not even sure we can do better, but f him. So much money on free agents. And 8-3 start squandered. Some questionable calls (see above). I say we dump him if only to make us feel better and see what happens next year. Note - that's not sarcastic. I do think it would feel good to dump him and get another qualified candidate.
Dan frigging Marino got benched in Miami, and he wasn't half as bad as Favre's been the last few weeks.
You can't go from 8-3 to 9-7. You just can't! There are no excuses. Brett Favre played awful down the stretch. The defensive playcalling was terrible. Give any NFL QB time to throw (OK maybe not JP Losman) and he'll find an open guy most of the time eventually. A pass rush is KEY defensively and you don't get it by rushing three guys. The offensive playcalling was lousy. (And you can say its the coordinators, Schotty and Sutton, but a good coach should know when its time to make some changes. Mangini should have seen that a consistent three man rush was unacceptable and that the offensive playcalling didn't make sense too often etc..) How this teams played with leads was completely unacceptable (Arizona, Miami, New England, Buffalo etc..). The prevent defense appeared too often. You notice how Philly was still blitzing Dallas with a 44-3 lead with 8 minutes left in the 4th? Yeah, nothing close to that this season Not getting Thomas Jones more carries down the stretch was unacceptable. This is when the running game had to step up and become an even bigger part of the offense considering how well this team ran the ball and because of Favre's apparent shoulder injury. The lack of half-time adjustments and consistent outcoaching as a result was unacceptable. Getting beat by teams with far lesser talent was unacceptable. Having Leon, the most explosive guy on the roster, get a just few touches a game down the stretch was unacceptable. This guy averaged 6 yards a carry. It took until game 16 for someone to realize this. I was a supporter for a while, but there is no way I can support Mangini any further. He NEEDS to go.
Not sure if anyone cares from a GB fan, but... You guys can trash the HC all you want, but often it comes down to having the right players fit the right systems. Our coach went from coach of the year last year to taking heat this season for a 6-10 record. Your coach looked real good at 8-3 until your players, like Favre, stopped playing. Did Bill Belichick all the sudden lose his genius? (last I looked he's not coaching in the playoffs this year). I don't know much about your HC but putting the blame all on coaches when players aren't performing is dead wrong. Like I said I probably have no reason to be talking about your coaches but last I remember this franchise wasn't exactly the New England Patriots before Mangini got there, so maybe the problem is deeper than that. Just a little outside perspective.
Isn't the system dependent upon coaching? The thing with the Belichick example is that a) he lost his quarterback 2) converted a career backup to stardom 3) the team progressively got better with each week and 4) they still went 11-5. Belichick's scheme makes the players. At 8-3, does a good coach let his team go out West and lose to teams like San Fran and Seattle? We couldn't win a damn game out West. The example you put may work with the Packers, although you'd be crazy not to think the defensive coordinator isn't partly responsible for their performance.
What a tool. New England has been ass raped with injuries, including the best player in the league at the most important position in the sport. They took a guy who hasn't PLAYED football since freaking High School, and turned him into a quality starter. Further, throughout the month of December New England was playing some of the best football in the NFL. Mangina on the other hand had an almost perfectly healthy team (Harris on off being the exception), a loaded roster with the most Pro Bowlers in the NFL, and an 8-3 record which only required some consistency to not only lock up the playoffs, but to contend for a first round bye. How you can even compare the two is totally ludicrous. I won't even go into detail about New England's past for fear of amping them up too much, the pieces of shit they are.
Well of course it isn't just the coaches. There was a lack of execution and also far too many poor playcalls offensively and defensively. If you had watched Jet games you'd see that not only was Favre's play awful down the stretch but so was the playcalling. The team consistently got outcoached and outplayed. And this team didn't get to 8-3 by accident. They didn't beat the Pats and Titans by accident. Things were going very well, but to fall to 9-7 and lose to teams like San Fran, Denver and Seattle is completely unacceptable. And these weren't hard-fought and close games either. They looked downright AWFUL on too many levels.
The head coach is responsible for the product on the field. This is what a head coach does. The Jets collapsed MAJORLY. Yet, Mangini shows no emotion, and that in itself is worrisome. I knew from the day Mangini came to this team and changed the defense to a 3-4 that this team was in trouble. In my opinion the defense is still more suited to the 4-3. This is a major major thing in my book that can't be overlooked. I think Mangini is too self-absorbed. This "my way or the highway" thing has fucked the Jets badly. Getting rid of Mawae and Kendall were two of the biggest mistakes, trying to change the defense was the third mistake.
I agree. Trading Kendall led to the OL problems last year. The defense became a mess, but because Mangenius came from new England, everyone expected him to be Son of Belichek. On the other hand, Mangini did show some emotion during his press conference today. I think he knows he's a goner by tomorrow. I don't think there will be another press conference from Mangini tomorrow...
I just saw the TO, press conference after the Dallas loss... Now i think To is borderline Marbury crazy, with that said i wish one time a jet or Eric mangin handled the press conference the way TO did.. he repeated over and over how embarrassing and disgusting the end of there season was. how he cant believe they had destiny y in there own hands and completely blew it... I respect that so much more than asshole Mangingi actually talking about the evaluation process tomorrow.. lol
i really think favre has something wrong with his shoulder, he basically admitted it after last weeks game. he will be going for an mri tomorrow, not sometime this week or at some point in the future, its bad enough that he will be going tomorrow. and yet mangina did not at any point tell favre, hey man you really need to go get it looked at, you hurt the team if you cant make the throws, but no instead he just let him keep playing badly. of course favre isnt going to say hey i need to go get it looked at. that was something i really wish mangini had done. as far as i can see they are both out of here in the next 2 weeks. mangini with a little bit more of a possibility of staying than favre but i really dont see the jets continuing with either of them.
what a tool? oh sorry I said anything. You probably know more about football from watching so much good football, being a Jets fan and all. My apologies.
anyway... My point wasn't that Magini is some great coach. My point on Belichick was without Brady best he could do was miss the playoffs and with Brady he wins Superbowls. I'm not railing on Belichick I'm just saying...players have something to do with it. All I meant by my comments is that you can't put ALL the blame on coaches if they don't have the players or the players they have aren't performing. If you think Mangini is at fault for Favre's performances, you'd be wrong.
