Though New York ranks sixth against the run, since Nov. 30 the Jets have allowed 129 yards to Denver's Peyton Hillis, 127 to Buffalo's Marshawn Lynch and on Sunday, 116 to Seattle's Maurice Morris. And Seattle started five offensive linemen who were backups or on the practice squad in September.

Jets radio analyst Marty Lyons said teams recently have run well inside against them (despite Pro Bowl nose tackle Kris Jenkins) and on the edges, where Miami also figures to attack. ''Everybody is surprised,'' Lyons said.

The Jets' biggest weakness is their 29th-ranked pass defense, and CBS' Rich Gannon said they're especially vulnerable in the middle of the field.

That sets up well for Chad Pennington to continue throwing to his tight ends. The Jets allowed big numbers to Anthony Fasano (eight catches, 84 yards) and David Martin (4, 53), and Denver tight ends torched them (13 catches, 149 yards).

Also keep an eye on Jets starting cornerback Ty Law, a November pickup. CBS' Steve Tasker noted Seattle targeted him, with some success. ''He hasn't come up with the big plays people saw in the past,'' Lyons said.

    ------------

We knew the Pass D was terrible but I didn't realize the Rush numbers in the past 3 weeks. That's horrible, esp. to Seattle and their 5 back-up OLman.

not physical enough and the front 7 is wearing down...

There is this guy sutton too.

And this is with Harris back, which is pissing me off. The run stuffing ILB is back and RBs are now running all over this team???

    Vaginas.

I have no clue what happened to the run D. It's like the Broncos gave the league a blueprint on how to engage Jenkins. That coupled with the already garbage pass defense and here we are. It's also ridiculous how far our passrush fell off. I remember at one point we were 3rd in the NFL in sacks and run D. We were winning then.. funny how that works.

mangini and sutton 'borrowed' from our run d to help out the pass d. plain and simple.

    - we rush 2 or 3 and drop 8 or 9 into coverage. no run d there.

    - we drop pace into coverage alomst every play. no run d there.

    - ty law. no run d there.

    - rhodes playing 20-25 yds deep every play. no run d there.

and we still can't stop the pass.

maybe we should go back to 'at least' stopping the run.

plus keeping 8 in the box will negate pennington's 5 yrd hail marys.

I agree. We pulled back when we should have kept pressing...

Doesn't help that Jenkins and Favre have completely fallen off the map.

jenkins 'falling off the map' is yet another consequence of robbing petter to pay paul.

by pulling players out of the box to emphasize the pass d, you put much more pressure on the few remaining players (jenkins) to shut down the run, plus with harris out 4 games, that only added to the pressure.

im surprised jenkins can even walk at this point let alone dominate the other teams entire offensive line.

This is esp. troubling when we are heading into a game against Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. I really have a bad feeling about the run defense.

I think Broadway Brett had it in another post. But if the Pats win, I hope Belichek calls up Mangini and gives him advise.

being vulnerable in the middle of the field in the passing game is not a surprise. We need better LB pass coverage.

Totally agree. Seen it over and over and the funny part is it started when Law got here, and it should have been the other way around...keep stuffing the run and let Law do his thing, if he has any "thing" left in him.

I think it was a knee-jerk reaction by the CS after being burned through the air.

Yeah I can see that. The Pass defense adjustments destroying the rush defense.

The pass D is a huge disappointment. But part of the problem is def pressure on the QB.

Every play it seems the QB stands for so long, then the TE gets wide open down the middle and even Seneca Wallace can't fuck up that play.
