    From Rotoworld:

We've already locked up a 3rd round pick because of Vilma's playing time. If Peyton is speaking truth, giving us a 2nd round draft pick is a Saints' priority. :)

Would be great to hear. Remember though, we need to ship them our 4th to get that second. Not adding a pick but a huge upgrade in position. Keeping my fingers crossed that they do sign him.

An i could be wrong but i also think that pick then becomes a 1st round pick in the 09 Draft since the Saints traded there 2nd (should be ours) to the giants for shockey. So im pretty shure it means 1st Round Pick for us from the saints in next years draft.

No, it's the Giants who get the first rounder in '09 if this happens.

You've got it backwards. Jets traded first, so the Giants get 2009's 1st rounder if the Jets get this year's 2nd rounder. I still dunno about all this though. The way the deal was done all the power is in the Saint's hands. They pretty much control if they give that pick away or not. Even Giants' GM Jerry Reese said he doubted the Giants would get a 1st rounder out of it.

Any chance the 1st rounder going to the Giants is conditional? Shockey was hurt most of the year and looked like shit the rest. He wasn't worth a 2nd and 5th, and sure as hell not a 1st. Frickin' Shockey trade seems to be the only thing holding the Saints back from resigning Vilma ASAP. I hate that overstuffed Baby-Huey Miami douchebag now more than ever.

So I wouldn't be too excited for the 2nd. Besides, they'll probably just wait 'til FA to ensure they won't waste a 1st on Jeremy "overrated" Shockey.

Do they have to resign him before the free agency period for us to get that pick?

You misunderstand. Shockey is for a 2nd and a 5th and that's it. There are no conditions, this is all that deal will ever be. However, the deal for Vilma had conditions that could allow it to go up to a 2nd round pick. Since this trade was done before the Shockey deal (or for whatever reason) this deal supercedes the Shockey deal, should it go up to a 2nd. Shockey's play has nothing to do with it; once he passed that physical the Giants had a done deal. If the Saints do something stupid in a situation where they have all the say in what goes on, I will be just as thrilled as confused.

I'm pretty sure if we get the Saint's 2nd round pick for Vilma, the Giants get their 1st in 2010, not 2009.
