Here is a guy with: 1) a questionable arm. 2) two past shoulder surgeries and elbow troubles THIS offseason 3) numbers and performance that were clearly enhanced by playing QB on one of the most talented offenses in college football history - how could he look bad when college defenses faced the best OL in college football, a running game with two RBs that will go in the first round, including the number one pick and Heisman winner, and a dominant WR corps? Things will be very different when he doesn't have all that time to throw, a weak running game, and an offense that may be inferior in terms of talent to the defenses he faces. Plus, QB is not a primary area of need. We have Pennington with almost a year to heal, Ramsey - a former first round pick who never really got a shot in Washington, and Bollinger as a third string QB again. That makes QB much deeper than other positions on the team.
I don't think his talent is overrated , hes doing what he can with what is available. He doesn't have the gun but what he lacks in arm strength he makes up with in intelligence. At times he reminds me of Brady especially in his composure. Not sure about the injuries thing , seems most QBs are carrying some kind of injury or another these days. Looking at it from another point of view , the oline that he will go to will be better than the USC line AND he will be coached by 'NFL' coaches. I would be gutted if we drafted a QB on the first day as there are other needs. I would prefer us to draft a DE/OLB first and an OT secondly. theres no point in us doing half a job on the OLine when we could 'fix' the D line with one pick IMHO
I think our QB situationis horrendous. Chad can't throw anymore; and he is as fragile as glass. Patrick Ramsey I have no faith in, this guy was a first round bust and that happens alot with QB's; give it up, he'll never be more than a decent back up. Brooks, (sigh) look I like the guy, but he can't be a starter. He doesn't have the ability, or any intangibles. Thats why Jay Cutler is the QB for us. He has a very good arm which can handle gusty Meadowlands winds, he's flying up mock draft boards, he had no talent around him and is tough as nails.
Peyton Manning 1998 Tennessee 6052 230 4.9 Matt Leinart QB | (6'4", 223, 4.9) sound Familar.. to weak arm guys
QB is one of the deepest positions on our team we have a really nice 2nd and third string QB, unfortunately we don't have a starting caliber QB. I don't advocate necessarily taking a QB with our first pick but to me it makes a hell of lot more sense than replacing Jones a young player with enormous upside and potential with another young player with enormous upside and potential at the same position. Trading down for a big mauler at RT makes sense to me but D'Brick with our 4 seems almost insane.
Hes no Peyton Manning but hes a winner-which is more than you can say for Manning. He can definately handle the pressure of the city which is more than you can say about the other Manning but still-WE DONT NEED A QB! I have all the faith in the world in Chad. I saw him down in Florida working out and he was throwing well before reported-hes been throwing since the beginning of February. Also, it looks like he gained 25-30 pounds in muscle. He was so thick and if he is injured again-how many times have we seen guys who everyone thought were a bust and then have a change in surroundings and play the way they were supposed to. Ramsey still has all the tools to be a star in this league. He is motivated like Brees was motivated. Im very confident in the QBs
I also have all the faith in the world in Chad, in Chad I trust. As for Ramsey, it's not a question of his physical skills. I just wonder how mentally he is. I wonder of all the years of abuse in Washington, does he still have confidence and does he still think he can get the job done. Thats what I'm concerned about. Now for Leinart, if the only concern is his questionable arm strength; I'll take that any day. It sounds to me that the so called draft experts are stretching to find a negative about Matt. There have been tons of QB's with questionable arms, that turned out great. Such as well one of the greatest Peyton. So yeah I'll take the weak armed QB with accuracy, and pass on the stronged armed QB who has no accuracy(Vince Young)
this is a kinda random question that i've been meaning to ask for a while... what's the deal with that big black knee-brace Leinart wears (i think it's on his left leg)? did he ever injure his knee? cheers
No. His arm strength isn't questionable. He can make all the throws. And while he played with a lot of talent, isn't it possible he helped make that talent look good? I don't think we should take a QB, but whoever does take him is going to get a good one.
I know that Leinart doesn't have the strongest of arms (though I think its a little overblown) I don't know how someone can use Leinart's arm strength as the main reason not to take him and then say they Pennington (who I like) is a reason why they are fine at QB?
You guys who doubt him are listening a little too much to the media. The facts are, he's smart, he's a leader, he knows how to read a defense, makes great decisions, has great patience, big and tough, accurate as hell, has all of the mechanics, played in a pro-style offense. Not to mention his winning percntage. And the reason i doubt vince young is, because he takes advantage of his excpetional running skill, and explodes through the openings that college defenses have. In the nfl those openings aren't open anymore, and he's gonna be defended by guys who are much faster than him.
I have my doubts about his velocity (not his arm strength, he can make all the throws, the question is how good can he make those throws). I'm not so much concerned about all of the off the field issues. He's a very good prospect, and I think he could become a good starting QB in the NFL. But I don't know if Leinart is a guy I want to invest the big time money into. Besides, if he is available at #4, I bet some team will offer us a King's ransom.
I live in L.A., am a big SC fan, and I still doubt his ability to be an elite QB on the next level. Some of us can think for ourselves and have an educated opinion. Thus stated, if he's the pick at number 4, I'll be hoping my opinion is way off base!
I would take him at 4--but NO WAY would I move up to get him. The jets REALLY need all their picks (and more).
Is Leinart overrated - probably - but we don't need the second coming... we need a guy who can take a snap without fumbling and throw it to an open receiver!
