I have fond memories of Jets-Seahawks games. I remember we destroyed them in Parcells's first game, opening day '97. Then there was Vinny T's phantom TD in '98 (that playcall to me is one of the most bizarre/ballsy playcalls of all a time. A QB sneak (not a draw) on fourth down from the five yard line). Then in '99 we beat them on the last game of the year when our season was over and they were going to the playoffs (Marino got his last win ever against them in the WC round if I remember right) Then they moved to the NFC. Then in 2004 we stomped them late in the season which led to Chad's famous "covering athletes is a privilege, not a right!" That was in response to all the arm strength criticism and such I think, but then he looked awful the next two weeks and we lost both games. Any ones I'm missing?
Yes it is. They will need the 12th man this week. Since their 11th, 10th, 9th, 8th, 7th, 6th, and 5th man is not very good.
Holy shit. I was ACTUALLY making a thread EERILY similar to this about recent Jets-Seattle history. I was going to mention every one of these games. (Even though it's a logical absurdity to conclude that any of these games have any bearing whatsoever on the game this coming sunday, I always enjoy reminiscing about the Jets like this)
In that 2004 game it was the #1 vs #2 rushers in the NFL (Martin & Alexander) and we had that amazing goalline stand, stuffing them on the first three plays, and then I think Barton forcing a fumble that Ellis recovered in the EZ. That was one of the only times in recent memory that we were truly 'tough' on defense- where if teams thought they could run on 3rd or 4th and short, they were kidding themselves.
Our run defense has been this way most of the season. Hopefully, Kris Jenkins returns to form next sunday.
Even when the D was performing well- it didn't have the attitude that that 2004 group had. And on defense, an attitude makes a big difference
Amen to that! Revis is due a pick six soon! Jets put it away early! flipper and NE lose! I guess I am just day dreaming but that would be sweet!
Well, you may have fond memories of the Jets-Seattle series over the past twenty years or so after the series turned but do you remember the late 70's and early 80's? Seattle - an expansion team - won the first seven games of the series (most of them at Shea) and they won them all pretty much as heavy underdogs and in the strangest ways possible. Fake field goals, penalties, flea-flickers, goal-line fumbles, blocked punts, it could be 95 degrees out, it could be in the dome, it didn't matter, you name it they did it to us. They absolutely tortured Walt Michaels teams......but yes, the Jets have won 8 of the past 9 games since 1985.
Lets pray there's no Karma there. That game put them out of playoff contention. And we've been getting screwed royally on big calls the last two weeks.
The Vinny call was a makeup call anyway, we shouldn't have needed it as Keyshawn caught a TD the play before and was forced out w/ no call.
i remember seeing Pennington line up at WR Lamont Jordan at QB out of shotgun. Curtis next to Lamont and Lamont just ran a sweep around right side for a long TD run
This series has been a weird one. Seattle was an expansion team in '76(I believe) then came to the AFC in '77 and we couldn't beat them. From 1977 through 1983 Seattle beat us 7 straight times and were 7-0 against us lifetime(inclduing 2 wins in 1981 during a stretch that we went 10-0-1 against everyone else). Since we beat them in 1985 we have gone 8-1 against them w/ our lone loss at Seattle in week 2 of the 1991 season.
