Believe it. Since 2002, every other year has been good. 2002- 9-7, AFC East Champs, 2nd round of playoffs 2003- 6-10 2004- 10-6, wild card, 2nd round of playoffs 2005- 4-12 2006- 10-6, wild card, 1st round of playoffs 2007- 4-12 2008- currently in first place going into week 16 We will go deep into the playoffs this year and win 5 games next year. Mark it down.
Well, next year we play the South, and are doomed. I believe the year after is the North, and that's not looking too good either. Of course, after next year, Mangini probably gets fired, so maybe we start doing well every year.
The every other year scenario can actually be traced back to 1998. In 2000 we started very strong also and the wheels fell off when the locker room started to turn against Groh and his tough practices. There were other issues also, but basically Groh was even tougher on the players than Parcells and nobody was afraid of him like they feared Parcells.
Jets sure know the definition of a leap year... I think next year, we will find out within the first couple games or so what out team is going to be made of with an inexperienced QB. If one of the QBs step up, I think we break the cycle.
But we never have had more than 10 wins since 2002, which is most likely what we need this year to make the playoffs. But we did make the playoffs in every other year. O well i know that doesn't mean anything. Let's just take care of Seattle
In 99 we lost our QB, and still finished I believe 8-8. That's a far cry from 4-12. So no, it doesn't trace back to then. It does however trace back to....Hermy. Hermy and Mangini back to back, just tells you the level of coaching of both of them.
sorry but this isn't the jets, the is how pennington was. Every other year he was great, and look at him this year. Next year he will either lose his job or get put on IR so this is miami's year to try and make a run for the superbowl, if not, then don't expect them to be good until 2010 if pennington starts
Its such a weird cycle, every even year is a good year for the jets then the odd year they just stink.
Next year this is our schedule: Bills (2) Dolphins (2) Patriots (2) Colts Texans Titans Jaguars Falcons Panthers Buccaneers Saints Steelers Broncos YIKES!!! hmy:
We were some silly record at the midpoint of 1999, like 2-6. Then Parcells did what he does best and found a solution where no apparent solution existed. Yes, it dates back to 1998. The QB injury is irrelevant. Both 2003 and 2005 were heavily impacted by the loss of our QB for the season. Neither of those seasons would have been more than 7-9 or 8-8 or 9-7 at the outside but they went off the cliff because we had no reasonable backup QB option AND we had no Parcells to figure it out before the ship sank. 2001 was an aberration that occurred because a happy "players" coach replaced a dour taskmaster that the players disliked. The phenomenon of a team, particularly a veteran team like Parcells left the new administration, suddenly raising it's play for a season when they get the candy man on the sidelines is a well documented one. The effect doesn't last for long though and it certainly doesn't last through injuries to key players. Herm, BTW, went 9-7 with a seriously declining veteran KC roster his first year there also and then the bottom fell out.
I think you're missing the point. We've been alternating mediocrity with pathetic. 4-12 alternate 10-6/9-7 since about 2000. Under Parcells, 8-8 was his worst record, but under Mangini and Hermy we put up 4 win seasons every other year. That's why I say it's from 2000.
Looking at this schedule we better do something to fix our secondary and LB corps this offseason to stand a chance. 7 teams/games that are Pass-First and/or have great QB/WR tandems...and we haven't even touched their running game (Falcons/Panthers). Scary.
That 2001 team seriously had like no talent. It was Curtis Martin and a bunch of bums that somehow managed to win 10 games. EDIT: Really good o-line too though
