"In a dogfight, take the toughest dogs. That's Belichick and Parcells, not Mangini." Yeah, but I like to root for underdogs.
You know, I can't find a word in there that I disagree with- but somehow it irks me when a sports writer calls out my coach for sucking while praising the coaches of my two most hated rivals.... Mangini is not (yet?) a good coach, and I and other Jet fans are allowed to acknowledge that. Not this guy...
I think it's criminal that Tony Sparano gets kicked aside as just some empty suit that stands on the sidelines. I hate the Dawlpfinz more than any team on the planet and have no reason to defend them, but I'd like to hear more about how this guy thinks Parcells is pulling all the strings.
Its a shame how Sparano is consistantly over looked... Parcells has been awesome... and has been great for us. But one of the great things he has done for us, is bring us a great HC in Sparano. Sparano probably wont even Coach of the Year b/c Parcells will get all the credit... but Sparano has been an outstanding coach this year...
Good point. I too have given Parcells a lot of credit for the Fins' rebound year, but I can tell you from reading the posts on the canes board by long time Fins fans who are also canes, that they are impressed with Sparano's coaching this season.
He has been really impressive this season... His attitude, intensity, and demeanor have been a huge part of our turnaround...
Its really really bad when the two other coaches the writer is talking about used to be OUR coaches. No argument from me on this article either but then again, I'm a natural born skeptic anyway. I'm sure the Homer brigade will come out with their usual "a win is a win" arguments but I don't think that's the point we should be looking at in the macro view. If it indeed comes down to coaching, Mangini and our Jets are done. We'd better hope Mangini has two more rabbit feet up his ass.
I love Parcells as a coahc but it's amazing how this guy always gets credit for good things but no blame for bad. -He did a terrible job drafting for us from '97-'99, Groh takes over in '00 and has a great draft and BP gets credit. -He cost us Belichick, he walked out on us, he gave us Groh, he ruined our cap but he was "great". -He gets credit for drafting so many pro bowlers in dallas but the fact that w/ all that talent he and his succesor never won a playoff game doesn't seem to matter. -Sparano has done a tremdnous job but it's BP who gets credit, it's just not fair.
Well, lets give credit where its deserved. As I was saying earlier in this thread, its absurd how overlooked Sparano is for Parcells. Sparano deserves a ton of credit. HOWEVER, Parcells deserves a ton of credit too. W/o Parcells, there is no Sparano. W/o Parcells, there is no Jeff Ireland (our GM). W/o Parcells, there is no Chad Pennington. Parcells came in and changed the culture of the organization... and brought in the right people to turn this team around. He deserves all the credit in the world for that...
I agree w/ the first 2 but how do you know there is no Chad Pennington? Miami knew they needed a upgrade at QB, you don't think if BP wasn't there Miami wouldn't have tried to get him?
"and one of the softest schedules in the league" ... The author should at least do some homework ... We don't even have the softest schedule in our division .... NE 81-101 .. .445% MIA 77-105 .. .423% NYJ 76-105-1 .. .420% BUFF 73-109 .. .401%
We would have tried... but I dont think he would have come to a 1-15 team w/o Parcells&Co here. There were a lot of teams coming off a LOT better records that could have used him. I think the only way we were able to land him was b/c of the Parcells connection from their past.
It is one of the softest schedules in the league... All of the AFC East schedules came right out of Candyland this year... The AFC and NFC West are such a joke...
Agreed... Everything Parcells did was before the season started... setting up this team. Everything done now is Sparano... LOVE the avatar btw, lol!
I really doubt it. He could have gone to teams like Minnesota, who looked like SB contenders before the season started... and w/ an OL and running game like that? And a defense that wouldnt make him play from behind? Perfect scenario for Chad IMO...
