1) We do not have any defensive players that can consistently pressure the QB. No one can beat anyone one on one. Opposing teams know that if they leave 6 to block our 4 that they will probably have 4 or 5 seconds every play. No team in the NFL can cover for more then a few seconds. When we do blitz 5 or more our slow secondary and linebackers are extremely vulnerable to big plays. The problem with the pass defense is not the coaching or the scheme. The problem is the players. 2) Someone needs to remind Kris Jenkins he is playing the 3-4 not the 4-3. His job is not to push the center back. His primary job as a nose tackle is to make sure both gaps are filled. He needs to take on the center but instead of trying to push the center backwards he needs to maintain his position so that one of the gaps doesn't open up. Lately he tries to push the center backwards and his momentum makes it easy to block him from the side opening up the middle of the defense. I'm sure the coaches are noticing this but it's killing the rush defense since the Denver game.
(1) David Bowens (2) Bryan Thomas Very sad that guys like CJ Mosley and Mike DeVito can come in the game and make an impact and our big earners aren't doing shit.
Hey: Kris Jenkin's is a beast. Even though he seems to stop filling gaps lately: Hey he's getting up there in age for a DT too. He can't be solely relied on, like he has, to stop the run.
One lucky INT (especially in a game the Jets lost) does not redeem overall horrible play and the complete inability to make a tackle.
Bowens has been very good as a serviceable player. He just isn't a starter but did okay when harris went down
I really believe that we'd see more sacks from these guys if we didn't rush three or maybe four guys on every single play. Thomas and Pace seem to be in coverage more times than not. Hey Sutton: Bring a safety blitz a bunch of times per game. Elam seems to make plays when he blitzes It's hard to generate pass rush when you consistently rush three or four guys. Opposing QBs have all day to find a WR. And eventually, they will because its not easy for DBs to cover recievers for about 5,6,7+ seconds consistently. Pass rush will also greatly improve this secondary. I truly believe that this defense would look GREAT if Sutton decided to try and rattle opposing QBs and force them to make poor throws and poor decisions. The run defense looked awful in two of last three weeks. I hope this doesn't become the defense's latest trend....
What ever happened to the Kerry Rhodes blitzing? He has impeccible timing on safety blitzes and 90% of the time either gets the sack or applies enough pressure to blow the play up. I cannot remember the last time he was used in this capacity.
