This morning, the New York Daily News reported that the team captains asked Mangini if they could practice inside this week. After some thought, Mangini obliged. The players were reportedly loving it. Last year, Coughlin did the same thing. At about the same time of the year. Look what happened.

Slight difference and advantage given to the Giants, who had a superior roster and coaching staff to our present squad...

I think you can argue that the Giants did have a better coaching staff, but I don't think Eli is or was, although the Giants beat the Packers, a better QB than Brett. Except that Eli stepped out of charecter and became a real good QB for a while. The exceptional Running game helps too.

I don't think the "07 Giants had better players than the '08 Jets.

Eli was the best QB in the playoffs last year, hands down. And their OL and DL were the best in the league.

last year their coaching staff was on the verge of being completely wiped out
    eli was very inconsistent
and shockey ahd just gone down with a season ending injury.

    they where FAR from superior.

and on a serious note i hate comparisions

Three to go and not one can be lost. Lets see how this pans out. Mangini is probably a goner if they miss the playoffs because the team quit on him. That is what has happened. No one has come to play in the last 2 weeks. Except maybe the O-line and the RBs.

How exactly do you fix the defense? The players are slow, we have no one who can consistently put pressure on the qb. Abram Elam and Ty Law are both below average players. It really doesn't matter what defense you can run if you can't pressure.

The 07 Giants have better players than the 08 Giants and the 08 Jets. The Giants have lost a ton off their D Line from last year and Buress is a huge loss on the O if not in production at least as a weapon who demands constant double teams.

This time last year Giants fans were ready to run Coughlin on the first bus out of town along with his CS and completely blow up the roster. How did that work out?

The Giants were 9 & 4 this time last year with two wins in a row going into their last three.

Yes and then they lost 2 of 3 to close out the year. This time last year Giants fans were ready to run out Coughlin and blow up the roster, just as they were for 3 years before.

I totally disagree!! Teams that are in first place with a great record like 8-3 don't quit on the coach under normal circumstances. Even if they hate the coach. Teams that are 5-5 are a different story. This is a veteran group of guys, I don't see them tanking games.

They clinched their playoff game after the win over Buffalo before lossing to the Pats in what was widely considered the turning point for the Giants as a legitimate contender in essentially a meaningless game.

The fact is at this exact time last year the Giants after two horrible losses to open their season had won 9 out of 11 two in a row. The Jets by contrast after taking control of their own destiny have essentially thrown it away with two awful losses in a row. We desperately need to win 3 in a row to make the playoffs. The Giants by contrast at this point last year couldn't win their division and needed 1 out of 3 to make the playoffs.

You can throw they lost 2 out of three at me but the fact is they were a hot team last year particularly on the road when the playoffs started. We will also be a hot team if we make the playoffs since we probably need 3 in a row to do it.

clearly, practicing inside was the catalyst for the team's success in the playoffs that has continued into this season.

I'm sure every other team that practices indoors is confused as to why they haven't been met with the same success when clearly that is all that is needed.

The biggest difference between the Giants last year and the Jets this year is that the Giants had never lead their division and never had a huge win (ala Jets beating the Titans) and were a team that was questioned by many in the league. The biggest regular season "win" the Giants had was their loss to the Patriots in week 17 when they saw how well they measured up against the team unanimously declared the best in football.

The Giants had a consistently good pass-rush and good running game all season. The Manning to Burress connection had also been very good that season.

The Giants gained a ton of momentum from that week 17 win, and rode it throughout the playoffs. They gained additional momentum from beating Tampa Bay as this was Coughlin/Eli's first playoff victory. Beating Dallas provided additional momentum as Dallas had beaten them 2X already that year (convincingly at that) and Jerry Jones had already given out tickets to Cowboy players for next week NFC Championship; essentially declaring this game already won. The momentum the Giants were riding got yet another huge lift in Green Bay. There they beat Brett Favre, career year and all, in freezing conditions that seemed to favor Favre and the Lambeau mystique. All this came to a head in the Super Bowl when the Giants unleashed upon Brady perhaps the greatest single performance by a defensive line that I have ever seen.

I think you need to see that a lot of the Giants playoff success was because of games won in the playoffs, and not because of things that happened in the regular season. Indeed, if you look at that teams' regular season stats and their playoff stats it's very hard to say that anything in their very mediocre regular season helped in their playoff run.

And you're dead wrong to say Eli stepped out of character and played well for a while. Eli turned a corner in those playoffs and continues very good QB play to this day. This includes out-playing Favre, and he continues to do so this year. If you don't believe me, check the stats.

I disagree.. nobody was saying the Giants had a good CS at the time they were almost all surely canned until the playoff run.

Really? Cause around this team last year I doubt anyone would have agreed with that statement...

But thank goodness for hindsight right?

Nah...I'll give the Giants the fact that their roster was loaded last year...but TF was so special about their coaching staff last year?

Oh thats right...they won the Super Bowl. Best everz!!! That was some sick game planning they came up with...I can imagine it now..."Eli, we have this play where you break a bunch of sacks on 3rd down and then throw it randomly to David Tyree, who should be open enough to come down with the ball on top of his helmet."

Why are things so fucking black and white in the sports world?
