The "oh-shit" factor is going to be high come 1:00. The Jets home crowd is as nervous as a cat to begin with. It won't take much to take them out of the game. The Jets must feed the beast early and continually to make the Bills quit by halftime, otherwise, it's choke city. Even more important than a first drive TD, is the Jets getting a 3 and out on the Bills. The defense needs to gains some confidence. Confidence, momentum, mojo...whatever it is they've been missing can return, but it takes time. Unfortunately, our boys in green don't have that luxury this week.
You're right GSourJr - the last two games have seen hesitant starts by the Jets on offense. Three and outs both weeks if I remember correctly... A scoring drive to open up would be big. Again, if my memory isn't playing tricks on me, the Jets have not had a lead in either of the last two games. Then the D needs to stomp on the Bills early to stop them from getting momentum. Sounds simple, doesn't it?
Yeah, agreed. The team has driven the field, in the first posession, for a score in all of the winning games (Good for best in the league I remember hearing at one point). They need to get back to this.
100% agreement with you here. When the Jets were winning all those games, they almost always putt points on the board with their first possession.
I think more important than a "fast start" is a long drawn out first possesion. one of those nice 4-5 minute drives where pounding the rock is our main goal. TJ averaged over 7.5 a carry the last two weeks. We need to give him the ball several times on our first possesion, at the tackles, not between the guards...
I agree with GSour. The sense of urgency Mangini mentioned the other day should be on display to start the game. Offensively, I see them going no huddle on the first drive. On defense, blitzes to begin with. I also expect to see better "running to the ball" from all 11 defenders. The last two games defensive pursuit has been lacking.
I agree with most of your assesments .... Not sure about the NO HUDDLE .... Would LOVE them to grind it out for a TD after a 9+ minute drive I live in WNY and it looks like Aaron Schobel is OUT for the game and Edwards has not been able to practice yet this week ... Let hope for JP Losman, who managed to take over that high powered offense and guide them to 3 points in each of the last 2 games ...
My stomach or should say my lower intestines have been churning all week and I have been passing much wind. What does this mean?
well we know if we don't get to a fast start and we are behind 3-0 , we will be passing all game and TJ will get 6 to 8 touches
How about an 8 minute drive featuring TJ and Kerry Rhodes, remember him, picks Losman off and returns it for a quick/pick/six? COme on Kerry, Carton is tearing you up on Tuesdays. Time to MAKE A PLAY!
No huddle may not work if buffalo borrows a move from the denver playbook and fakes an injury after every down. That was a truly classy move by shanahan - beli-cheat would be proud to come up with something like that.
I would like to see the Jets play vanilla football--pass the ball, run the ball--on offense and avoid those "trick plays." No flipping the ball during a fancy double reverse, no onsides kicks (unless it's the last two minutes and we need the ball back), no lateral passes during a punt/kick return, no flea flickers, nothing fancy. Just run the ball, throw the ball, catch the ball.
