I hear a lot of people on here focusing on Favre being 39. I?m not saying that age isn?t a factor but I think we need to remember that elite athletes can, and often do, defy what seems possible for a person of their age. This is true even in sports that are physically demanding on the body. The two examples that are most glaring to me are the following?

Bernard Hopkins ? Nearly 44 years old, Hopkins is still performing at or very near his best. In his last fight he outboxed, outworked, and dominated 26 year old Kelly Pavlic who many boxing experts claimed was one of the best pound-for-pound fighters and would easily dispose of Hopkins.

Joe Calzaghe ? At age 37, Joe Calzaghe?s super-middleweight and light-heavyweight reigns overlap, he has had the longest continual time as world champion of any currently active fighter. He is still undefeated (46-0) and is still easily disposing of younger fighters who are in their prime such as Mikkel Kessler, Peter Manfredo and Jeff Lacy.

I know there are plenty of fighters and athlete?s in general who just get old and cannot perform as well anymore. I just think that there is case that can be made however, that Favre is one of those athlete?s that just ?ages differently? than normal people, and that can defy logical assumptions about age and performance.

Yeah, I think other factors not related to age has more to do with it then anything, because at 38 you really saw no drop off in his play last season.

New Team, New playbook, virtually no offseason of work.

That is tough. I always felt if he came back one more year he would be better next season, but time will tell. As it stands, the jets are still in this thing right now, and we all would rather win now then later.

I don't think age is an excuse right now, save possibly in bad weather games. ALthough a nasty trend is going on: Against bad teams, the jets stop running the ball despite big YPC numbers. Ironically, against the toughest opponents, the jets run it 25+ times, Favre has a good game, and the jets seem to win.

    Like, what?

Even when Favre has a bad game it's not because of age it's usually a miss communication problem

Sometimes when you have great athletes age doest really effect your ability. Look at Michael Jordan too, didnt he have a 40 point game when he was 40 years old? So age doesnt matter in this case for Favre hes still performing rather well.
