Just heard it on NFL Live but if we miss the playoffs John Clayton says Bill Cowher could come here to replace Mangini. I dont know about u guys but i could honestly say i wouldnt mind that, because the way we have been playing lately even if we make the playoffs i have no hope to go any further than that.
I almost want to miss the playoffs now. Cowher will give us the identity we want and will make things happen. Mangini lacks the balls to get it done.
Wouldn't mind? If Cowher was coaching you guys this year you'd be 10-3 or 11-2 right now. Just wait someone is going to say, Oh look it took him 15 years to win one blah blah blah, while completely forgetting to mention that he had them in the playoffs almost every year, 1 extra SB apperance, and 2 AFCCGs.
I would LOVE to have Cowher... Even though I still support Mangini. But hey, if Cowher wants to come here were not making helping ourselves if we don't look into it.
Not buying it... Cleveland or Carolina. and the way the Panthers are playing this year, not too likely to wind up there.
I just saw this too. We could make the playoffs and lose quickly to give up a 2nd round pick that brett is not worth... orrr we could miss it, only give a 3rd (which we never use to get anybody good) and get a proven SB winning coach who has passion. (not too mention one of the better winning records in coaching history) I'm not saying I want to miss the playoffs, but if you told me we would get bill if we did miss them? I would say sure.
Sometimes a loss in the short term reaps rewards in the long term. If Mangini can get to the playoffs and make a strong showing, I'd love it. But honestly, deep down, I know that it is hopeless and we are far better off with Cowher. He'd solidify the HC position and the franchise for a decade.
I can't cheer against the Jets but I figure we should get him regardless as I have lost faith and he just was not ready to be a head coach
not sure i'm completely sold on Cowher....it took the guy 15 years to win a Super Bowl...and the Steelers weren't exactly great in has last year at the helm either. If he does come here...i wouldn't expect a SB berth over night...is what i'm saying. having said that though...he's still a better option than Mangini.
Carolina is no way gonna replace Fox and Cleveland is a no go either , Clayton also said that Cowher doesnt want to play the Steelers twice a season which he would have to do if he goes there.Look for Marty to go back to Cleveland, maybe his son can follow him there 2.
just had this conversation before i saw this with friend and long time suffering jet fan. I said to him I would only want Mangini out if we were bringing in Cowher, Holmgrem. Not another assistant coach, college coach, fassel, etc.... The only three year period I felt we truly truly changed our image is the Parcells years, he came in said I don't believe in SOJ etc... changed our image, Cowher could do the same thing, we possibly could keep tannenbaum in mix too as I believe Cowher would not be type of "numbers guy" and I believe tannenbaum is best contract guy in business.
would love Cowher. But to be honest, I would love Rex Ryan more. I still want this group in the postseason. I think something is just going to click once the last game of the season comes. Do or die time, and we get it done and go on a run. Now if we were to lose, well Cowher would be a great fall back.
Exactly , im not in favor of losing but it could help us out in the long run, whats the poinst of going to the playoffs if we are probably gonna lose anyway to a Colts or Baltimore team who are playing much better football right now. This team just isnt ready, plus giving up a 2nd is our penalty to making it
I caught myself thinking the same thing. But,of course i want to make the playoffs. but damn,i would love for the chance for him to come here.
+1 I honestly don't think Cowher would put in a 100%...considering he's already won a Super bowl, and it looks like he enjoys his job at CBS.....at least with Rex Ryan, the hunger to WIN would be there...and you know he'd pour his heart & soul into this team.
