Forget about his lack of accuracy, which is apparent, but when was the last time a receiver actually had his man beat? There are always two defenders in front of whoever is being thrown too. We need to try a flea-flicker or some shit because it's obvious our WRs can't get open deep.
He heaves it up there and gets a ton of air under it. It looks like a punt at times. You know since the first play in Miami it's like he hasn't thrown a single good deep ball.
our receivers are unable to get open...its embarrassing. Its not schoot, its not that idiot favre. Our recievers never ever get open. Period.
I think that's the huge problem with our passing game....not that he can't hit guys deep, but they cannpt get open deep....but that is also a system thing....fi you notice, when we throw deep, there's only one WR down there, never 2 or 3....so of course they will always be doubled.... fuck man I could use the Madden playbook and be more creative out there!!
Coles had a good 3 steps on that last interception; that would have been huge if Favre hadn't underthrown it. I think you're wrong about our receivers getting open. They don't have great separation, but they're certainly open enough to throw to.
that was one play where the receiver had a step (more like a quarter step) and Favre underthrew him. still, even if it was a near perfect pass there's a good chance coles wouldn't have caught it and we'd be complaining about it anyways.
sometimes i wish he didn't put so much air under it. i think he was taught to do that by one of his coaches in the past... last year the packers used to have deep ball drills. favre and rodgers would throw the ball 45 yards down field into a small net. one day rodgers hit a few more than favre so he was bragging. favre said it was because rodgers wasn't getting any air under the ball, so brett takes the ball throws a bullet and gets it in on his first try. what i didn't understand when i heard that was that if it's easier to throw an accurate bullet downfield why not do that? that angle makes it harder to catch but it would also take the safety out of the play if the ball gets there fast enough. plus it would be more accurate apparently, which is usually the most important thing
It's tough to get better at the WR position too. It generally takes about 3 years to develop your own WR, and it takes at least half a season or so (and that's probably underestimating it) to bring in a veteran and get them acclimated. By the time we develop a legitimate WR, Favre will have retired for good. Keller is a TE and is doing pretty well, but he's still a rook and it's obvious. I've been clamoring for a serious gamebreaker for years now. Leon is still our only gamebreaker on offense, and he is a scat back. The defense still sucks even with all the talent that has been put on it. The O-line can't pass block well enough or even run block consistently. You definitely need a good defense and to be good in the trenches, but if you refuse to have the skill position players on offense you will always struggle. Coles is probably the worst #1 WR in the NFL...since he isn't a true #1 in the first place. 2 mediocre WRs are not nearly as good as having a great WR. You can't just add them together. I think we have one of the worst WR corps in the league. Only the Titans are probably worse. I can't really think of anyone else that bad right now. Everyone else seems to be able to get separation sometimes at least.
It's a lot easier to get a lower trajectory ball knocked down or intercepted. Also, Favre is used to playing with WRs that can make the adjustment and make a play on the ball. Both Cotchery and especially Coles have zero interest in fighting for the ball, they are both far more content to run at a steady pace and have the ball come right to them. If it doesn't they can't do a thing about it.
The Bears and the Raiders are probably worse also, but yeah, pretty much every team either has one guy who is freakishly big or fast, or both and the Jets don't have any.
yeah, and it pisses me off even more because i play WR and watching how they (namely Coles) goes after the ball sometimes is a disgrace for anyone who considers themselves a WR.
