This guy is so freaking overrated. He hasn't been good since 2004. All he did was stand around today and wait for receivers to catch the ball. How about, you know, going after the fucking football for once?
Our LB cannot defend against the pass. The middle of the field was open all day, and all season. Barton is always chasing the receiver from behind
Any scheme with Drew Coleman singled up with Isaac Bruce and Eric Barton singled up with Vernon Davis all game is a complete and utter failure. Why put your players in a position where their weaknesses can be so easily exploited? Sheer stupidity
Barton and BT should be replaced. Total liabilities in coverage, don't make many big plays and since we forgot how to stop the run as of late what good are they?
Barton isn't great at coverage, but overall he's a decent LB. With better playcalling and DB's, I think he'd do very well.
I agree about the play-calling, but only to a certain extent. Good players will play well regardless of the scheme. Yes, some are more suited to different schemes, but they just looked awful out there. It reminds me of the Hackett days. Yes, Hackett was terrible. But he wasn't the only reason why we only dinked and dunked. Our options were just limited due to personnel. Same thing here, I don't like the schemes, but I just think most of our players suck. Oh, and the whole "we don't blitz enough" has been put to rest. We've blitzed plenty the last couple of weeks, and they are always (easily) picked up. We're just slow.
I can't back this up with numbers because I am way too lazy to look them up but I've watched every game and I think that Barton is having an excellent season. He's obviously not pro bowl material but, given what we've seen from him in the past, he has been exceeding expectations this season.
The thing is, too may guys are having "good seasons" for our defense to be this bad. Jenkins was touted as DPOY, Revis as cover corner extraordinaire, Rhodes as All-Pro safety whose side QBs avoid, and Ellis, Barton and Harris as playing very solid. So why is our d so awful?? It can't just be Elam and CB#2.
i thing the all pro tag has to come off rhodes two guys in afc that are much better with out giving it a thought
