People wonder how the Jets can look so good one week and so awful the next. To me it's the same awful play calling and game planning that caused everyone to get so fed up with Pennington. Yes, when it's working it's quite effective, you eat up a ton of clock and keep the other team off the field, but there are so many things that can go wrong, and when something does, the drive is all but finished.

Whether it be poor game conditions like last week or just plain shitty play like we saw tonight. There is just no big play ability from the passing game. Going into multiple seasons in a row with this plan of attack is bad enough, bringing in a guy like Favre to run the same dog shit finesse offense they've been running is even worse. While in the past they may have tried to establish the run, now all they do when the pass isn't working is throw it more. It's the height of lunacy. I've been hearing rumors about other teams having interest in Schottenheimer, but this may just be people paying lip service to a "name". Getting rid of him and Mangini may be the best offensive move we can make in the offseason. Of course getting a WR or two in here couldn't hurt either, Coles is absolutely awful at this point.

Our offense is good but not good enough to make up for our defense.

Once our running game is taken away we lose.

Our Wrs are terrible, they can't get open and Favre throws a horrible deep ball.

This is coming from a Packers/Favre fan here...

Hate to say it, but the jets wr's just aren't that great. Look at the packers receivers this year and last year, they have 5 quality receivers, two of which (driver & jennings) are excellent. Jennings is a great deep threat, and can also be good in the middle. Driver is amazing in the middle, and can be an occassional deep threat as well.

The jets wrs have good hands, and some good moves, but they can't get open enough, and just don't have the speed to go deep very often other than with blown coverages.

I'll admit favre isn't the greatest deep passer, but he did have quite a few last year, and other years as well, so clearly the difference is the receivers. He can keep dinking and dunking as he has great speed and accuracy on short throws and slants, but the jets really need a deep wr. I'm all for trying out clowney to see if he can get a few deep balls his way.

Less than 200 yards total offense today, is that correct?

Yeah, the offense is really dependent on using all 3 downs, which doesn't give them much wiggle room. If one pass is incomplete or a run doesn't get more than 3 yards, they fall into a real bind and the rest of the drive is pretty much shot. They don't really have any contingency plan for those long situations other than asking Favre to throw it as far as he can with a prayer.

My biggest issue with the coaching staff is their apparent attitude that they don't need to game plan for teams weaknesses and they're good enough to run "their offense" week in and week out. While the short, precision passing game was amazing against the Titans defense, they try to run the same thing in awful conditions against a Denver defense that can't stop the run.

Yeah look how great the packers WRs are. Last time i checked the packers lost too, and they have a WORSE record in a crappier division.
