hey guys anyone have any idea how much cap we shaved off wiht the releases so far? law and fabini must of cut a good portion off. what about the rest of the guys?
Somewhere around 10.1-10.2M before Martin (which I do not have details of) Law saved about 4, and Fabini saved 3.2 Keep in mind, the top 51 salaries on the team count. So if you cut someone who saves 3M on the cap, you save around 2.77M assuming the next guy to "take his place" is a minimum wage person.
Only 10 million? Damn...how are we going to come up with the other 16 plus million dollars? Yeah I know we can restructure alot of contracts, but man we still have alot of grass to cut. Kendall, Mawae, and Penny are probably up next.
They'll get under the cap rather easily. Martin's restructuring number wasn't factored into the $10M number.
when we trade abe that is another 8 mill off the cap, martin will probably be around 2-3 mill and if 2 or 3 more players restructure that should do it.
We have to get under the cap by 3/3. You can't trade before 3/3, so we need to be under WITH Abraham's cap #.
I forgot about Fiedler. He saved 4.72M. I counted him in the ESTIMATE of 10.2M saved though just didn't list him. Remember, We saved about 12M, but then the 7 highest salaries not in the top 51 moved into the top 51. They were all 230 or 310K, but they all count now, which eats into the savings.
True, but.. Any trade would have to be a sign and trade situation. His new contract could be set up to have a minimum salary for 2006 with a huge bonus delayed until a few days after the trade. This would make his cap value for the Jets (for that 1 day) minimal. They could make it work.
it only counts if he signed the tender -- right now he is thinking it over so technically that money doesn't count against the cap -- i believe that is correct
It would have to be sign and trade, but how you outlined is not how it works. Abraham would sign his TENDER. He would then be traded. The new team would then rip up the TENDER and sign him to a new deal. No cap hit for us since the tender is all base salary. However, he can't be dealt until 3/3. This means on 3/3 midnight, we have to be under the cap BEFORE the trade goes down with his 8.3M counting.
Noone seems to listen. Law had an 11M OPTION BONUS coming to him, not a ROSTER BONUS. Option bonus would have triggered the last years of his deal, and allowing the 11M to be spread over 4 years, or 2.75M per.
I thought most of the cap predictions were including picking up Law's option, so wouldn't it be around $20M off the projected $30M? I don't know for sure. JetsIn2004 is the guy who'd know.
