Obviously NE gets a pass..but With NE and NY being blown out by the Steelers and Pats, Buffalo losing to a horrible San Fran team and Miami barely pulling out the W against the Rams, the AFC East showed its true colors Sunday. The teams have inflated W-L records thanks to cupcake scheduling. Switch either the AFC West or NFC West to any other division AFC/NFC South/North no team, outside of maybe the Jets or the Pats, are competitors. This division still sucks, and I maintain that because of the mediocre competition year in and out, teams have no incentive to improve, and thus why they play at such low level. Compare this to the NFC East, where almost every year almost each team in the division remains competitive. The level of competition in the division elevates the play to where they are going to be in the hunt every single year: smash mouth, balance, franchise QBs, great coaches, great systems. Then there's the afc east: where gadgets, special teams, draws, line shifts, trick plays are the name of the game. Fuck the trenches, we have end arounds and reverse-reverses and wildcats to counter our inept line! Ugh. Can anyone give me an idea of why this division continues to suck after 8 years of this bullshit? I hate this division, and its mediocrity is something that's going to take a while to shake off.
Are you saying the division sucked last season when it had the first team to go undefeated in the reg season in 35 years? That team is IN this division, but according to you, the whole division sucks. Did you think about what you were saying before you posted? 8 years of this? Wow. You must not watch much football. How many Super Bowls have been won out of this division in the last 8 seasons? How many have been one out of any other single division in that time frame? Somone close this thread before the logic police shut down our message board.
So, you compare this division to the best in the NFL and then just put them at the bottom of the NFL???? Umm, ok.
Outside of NE of course, but as for the others? I haven't seen any consistency from other teams in this league. I haven't seen a "franchise" feel from either Buffalo, Miami, NY. It seems like every year they restart to build their "identity." I just don't understand how these teams can be this bad without making any sort of progress.
It is called a parity league for a reason. Few are the truly elite, if any. You have a handful of rather consistent winning teams at the top, and then a very muddy middle where "any given Sunday" happens more frequently than before.
right this division is the worst in football. never mind that the cardinals can clinch their division with 8 wins. that division is far superior.
How can the "worst division" get a cupcake schedule? By that definition every other team is better than them.
Is this thread serious? AFCE is not even close to the worst division in football. Have you seen the teams in both west divisions?
Or the NFC Norris division? Granted most of that is Detroit but the other teams aren't helping all that much. The plain truth is this thread is completely emotionally based ranting. Show us some stats. How does the AFCE do against the other divisions in games played?
This thread has no basis in fact. Boo to the OP. If you look at the data, the AFCE is 20-12 against opponents outside the division. Therefore, how could it be the worst division? I looked at one contrast and found that the AFCN is 13-16-1 outside their division. The OP should have thread starting permission suspended in my opinion. Maybe I'm still pissed from yesterday but for some reason, this really gets under my skin.
Wait, did you just say if these teams were in the NFC NORTH, only the jets and patriots could compete? Wait wait. So your saying in FOUR TEAM DIVISIONS, that the AFC East has two real contending teams? Wait a second. That's half the division. I'm pretty sure if any division has two real contendors, that's pretty decent. As for the NFC North? Wow, the NFC North is horrible. Miami, as an example, would be in first place as it stands in that division. Buffalo would still be in contention. Jets would be running away with it, and NE, like Maimi, would be leading the division. So like, the entire AFC East is better then the NFC North. Don't even get me started on the Cardinal's Divsion. Cards are the SOLE decent team in that division, no one else even remotely close to the .500 mark. Meh, your just being stupid. We've palyed some tough teams this season. We have won some, and lost some. It happens.
Also, wasn't that long ago that the NFC East was the NFC "Least"... go back to like '04, '03 and except for Philly that division scared no one.
You say we have a cupcake schedule because we play the AFCE and NFCW. If we are the worst division, don't THEY have the cupcake schedule for playing against us? Shouldn't they have more wins then? How does that even make any sense to you? The AFCE is arguably the best division in football. The Giants are probably the best team, and the Titans are probably second, outside of that, there aren't any other divisions of 4 total teams that are as dangerous as this division.
I don't have the stats to hand but I'm sure thanks to the measures to encourage parity in the league, every division has had its spell of being both the best and the worst over the last 15-20 years. When I started following the Jets (mid-eighties) the AFC East was seen as the best division (provided both Wild Cards in 1985) yet other years (last year for instance) it's been poor. Right now you have say both Wests are the worst yet in the last six years Oakland has been to the Superbowl and all three others have been in the playoffs with Denver and San Diego each making runs as well. That's one of the reasons I've pretty much turned my back on English soccer (used to go to 50+ games a year and now it's 1 or 2) and love the NFL - it's so even and everyone gets their time of being good.....apart from the Jets!!! DOH!
