According to John Clayton's blog (scroll down), the Chargers want a second round pick for Donnie Edwards. This is a guy who had 154 tackles last year and was the leader of the Chargers defense, so I was surprised they were willing to trade him. Him and Vilma would be an incredible duo in the middle of a 3-4, but they might be a bit undersized. Edwards is 33 years old and is a FA after this year, but we would likely be able to re-sign him if we wanted. He could be the impact player our defense needs to replace Abe. I'm not saying do it, because that 35th pick could land us a very good player, but it is interesting.

    Hmmm...For a third rounder it's a possibility...but i wouldnt send a 2.

Also the reason he's on the trading block is because he can't agree on a salary with their GM.

He will also need a new contract. Currently he's signed through the 2007 season with salaries of:
    2006- $3,550,000
    2007- $4,825,000

He was drafted in the 4th round in the 96 draft so he's a 10 year Vet...

Not for us, we have far too many ILBs as is. We need us some OLBs...

Forget it too old for the postion. We learned our lesson by keeping Lewis and Jones 2 yrs too long. They will not make the same mistake.

Ouch that is a huge contract. I think that I would have too pass on him, we have too many draft picks to sign this year.

He just doesn't have the size we need to complement Vilma, Vilma is our guy to build around on D, so if players do not fit into the puzzle then they will not be brought in

Don't need another Undersized ILB, but its interesting that he's on the block nonetheless.

Wow, I'd do it for a 3rd rounder.
I wonder why he's on the block, the Chargers used to love this guy.

Mangini wouldn't pull the trigger on this guy as this offseason he has looked for younger guys that are bargains in FA but Edwards is older and will likely have to be overpaid. Edwards won't be a Jet, although talent wise the addition would be excellent. Let's not climb into a cap hell once again.

Donnie is old, but he's incredibly durable and athletic for an "old" player. I have no problems with him as far as age or size are concerned, but the price tag as well as the contract required are too rich for my blood.

That's ok. I'm going to change my name according to how the draft goes and who we get at 4. Think about it:

    SuperMario9
    GreenHawk47
DBrickWall (the number he'll use with us since 66 is taken)

If Cutler or Young is the pick I'll have to do something different because I dislike both (although I rank Young higher then Cutler and I have battled with the Cutler lovers once or twice on here).

If something could be done about the contract, I wouldn't mind seeing him in a Patriots jersey. A No. 2 is too high but who knows how things play out?

As much as I'd love to see him here, this isn't a "rebuilding" type of move. If we needed an impact player at that position to put us over the top then yes. As presently constituted... no.

This wouldnt be a 3rd rnd pick it would be later, since he could be a June 1st casualty. Plus he wants a better deal so he is looking for atleast 8 mil in SB's(due to his current contract). At 35 not many will give it to him, if they do there will be limited interest so a 6th or 7th rnd seems viable.

The real question is where does he fit on our team? Isn't he an inside backer?
I dont think he is better than Barton and he is not a speed rusher so we would have to move Hobson or Kassell to the speed rusher position? This is not happening. If it does it wont be the last time I am wrong.
