My wife listens to Wayne Dyer (he's an inspirational speaker, for those that don't know) a lot, and on one of the CDs she just got, he tells a story about Curtis that I thought ws very cool. Dyer was lecturing one night, and saw Curtis in the front row. He said Curt took notes the entire time. After the lecture was over, Curtis approached Dyer to thank him and shake his hand. He also slipped Dyer a piece of paper. After Martin left, he looked at the paper. It was a check for $5000 to do whatever Dyer thought best. He said he used the money to buy some lady a van or something. I know Curtis Martin is nearing the end of his career, but I'm glad he is still with this team. He's an awesome guy.
Without a doubt Curtis is not only one of the greatest Jets of all time, from all accounts he's one of the greatest people to ever be associated with the organization. Jets fans haven't had many things to hang their hats on, but to have had the pleasure of one of the best RBs of all time on their team all these years is something that I treasure.
I've said it a thousand times. C-mart is the epitome of what an athlete should be on and off the field. Yes, I think he's washed up but that has nothing to do with the way the man has carried himself.
He does this kind of stuff all the time. He is a very unique in that way. Got to love the guy. He and Ced should be a really interesting battle in TC...
I've said this before. One of Curtis Martin's main driving forces to succeed was to take care of his mother. She credits him with the reason she is alive today. Take note that she did NOT treat him well when he was growing up, and that's an understatement.
I believe Curtis has created a "charity empire" fopr when he retires and also leads Bible studies for Jet players. Like another humble religious guy (Bernie Williams), I can see Curtis accepting reduced role over the next couple of years if it benefits the team.
I've read stories that a gun was put to his head as a teenager in Pittsburgh, and had it not gotten jammed, he would no longer be with us. I've also heard that his mom or financial representative has to keep hold of his checkbook or else he'd give all his money away. Also love the story about when he won the Team MVP award in New England, and gave it to Parcells. He dated Toni Braxton for awhile in New England. He's the real LL Cool J: Ladies Love Curtis the Jet.
