Let me just say - amazing win today - nothing to be unhappy about. I'm not trying to be a darksider here but something occurred to me watching the game today. There have been a bunch of games this season where we let teams hang with us because of the pass defense. The Cardinals game and the Pats game obviously. But after watching the Titans game today, I'm starting to wonder if our lackluster pass defense is more a product of the way the refs call pass interference than anything else. What do you guys think? Is our style on defense a reaction to the pass interference rule or are we just not so great at coverage?
We don't consistently pressure the QB and that's why our pass defense looks so bad. No team in the nfl can stop the other team if the QB is hanging out for 3 or 4 seconds. When we rush 4 guys someone needs to at least get near the QB and that's not happening.
It's been said a million times that the only thing the Prevent prevents is winning. I whole heartedly agree with this,I hate conservative play calling weather it be offense or deffense.
I didn't see the Prevent for the first time all season.... against an undefeated team, at their house... wow... good playcalling. The ranking stats are due to rushing 3 and not getting pressure and allowing the yards and points to pile up... they still lose the game to the Jets, but the rankings take a hit.
Talk about PI: we definitely got the benefit of the doubt on a couple in the 4q--they were PI but rarely called in our favor. I really think its the defensive scheme that has been causing us problems. Our personnel should be able to handle anything thrown at us. With the addition of Ty, we're that much better. But even today on the Tenn. scoring drive, we were rushing 3 except for that blitz which their OC saw from a mile away and called a screen. Did anyone notice that moment when EM is talking to Sutton about something and Sutton is standing there with this pathetically stupid look? It looked like a dress-down to me. Hilarious if it wasn't so important.
