probably. i dont think he's that popular nationwide though so that might hurt his chances. he'll have to stay at the top to keep his name in the spotlight. he's not really the face of the offense like some of the other prominent backs are
yea i do, i meant to edit that. and yeah, rivers hasn't been too good lately, but overall he's been good. If it's not him, then it's Favre as the starting AFC QB though.
he might get it on name alone. i dont know that he should be the starter for the afc. unless of course he keeps playing like he has the last two weeks the rest of the season.
the only qb with better stats is rivers though. you guys keep saying he doesnt deserve it but aren't really basing that statement off of anything
most of the voting is done before the last few games definitely the fan voting. Not sure about when the other voting is done.
The Colts would be no where near a wildcard spot without Manning. I actually think he should be an MVP candidate this year. I think he's played that well. He's played with awful pass protection and virtually no running game. (Manning and Favre are very close, statistically. Right now I would give a slight edge to Manning but Favre could easily surpass him by the end of the season, in my eyes. I just think that Manning has had far less to work with, as he has had virtually no running game and awful pass protection) As for Cutler . . . him and Favre are also very close statistically, however, Cutler throws for about 60 yards more per game Favre does. Have you watched the Broncos play? Cutler has been very good. And the bottom line here is, as I said in my previous post, it's far too early to be voting for the pro-bowl. It's completely and utterly absurd to be voting before the end of the season. But what can you do, the whole process is a joke.
Yeah, overall I agree with you. But my main point is it's way too early to be voting for pro-bowl selections. The way the NFL chooses to conduct this proces does great damage to the cherished principles of logic.
Yeah it's sad seeing some guys who make it every year just on name or popularity alone. A lot can happen in the next few weeks. I actually think Favre could make a push for the MVP award which might be just as crazy as thinking Manning will. But if you look at his stats and the Jets' record it's very possible. Especially if he plays at a high level for the rest of the year.
well, I was addressing the other guy who claims Favre is as good as the others statistically. He isn't. Kris Jenkins is a bigger reason for the improvement than Brett Favre. Of course I agree Pro Bowl voting shouldn't be so early. I haven't heard anyone who disagrees.
that might be true but no way is a defensive player gonna be voted MVP, even if he deserves it. Jenkins and Haynesworth should be candidates but they won't be. so we're left with offensive players and probably then left with QB's. That leaves Favre somewhere near the top.
Who should make it? Revis Jenkins Jones Leon(KR) Wright Who will make it? Revis Jenkins Jones Favre Leon
Pro bowl update! How is AFC East faring in Pro Bowl votes? November 18, 2008 7:28 PM Posted by ESPN.com's Tim Graham Brett Favre is the AFC's most popular quarterback in balloting for the Pro Bowl. Favre ranks third among all NFL players with 402,514 votes in fan-based balloting, which continues until Dec. 9. Fan balloting counts for one-third of the process, with players and coaches also helping decide who goes to Honolulu. Among AFC East players, what I found most interesting about the early returns is the dearth of Buffalo Bills among the top five at the various positions. Bills fans are passionate, especially when their team is winning, and online balloting began Oct. 13. Here are the position-by-position results and how AFC East players rank within the conference: Quarterback 1. Brett Favre, Jets (402,514) Comment: He has almost 94,000 more votes than second-place Jay Cutler. Running back 1. Ronnie Brown, Dolphins (284,794) 4. Marshawn Lynch, Bills (154,637) Comment: The Wildcat has helped propel Brown to prominence, but he's deserving without gadgets. Fullback 3. Tony Richardson, Jets (70,237) Comment: LeRon McClain of the Ravens is first with about 25,000 more votes. Wide receiver 4. Randy Moss, Patriots (188,138) Comment: Strictly on reputation. Jets receivers Laveranues Coles and Jerricho Cotchery are having seasons every bit as good. Tight end None. Comment: That's understandable, given the number of play-makers at this position in the conference. Center 3. Nick Mangold, Jets (94,063) Comment: Surprising not to see Pro Bowler Dan Koppen among the top five. Guard 1. Alan Faneca, Jets (165,610) 4. Derrick Dockery, Bills (61,449) Comment: Perennial Pro Bowler drawing votes from two fan bases. Pro Bowler Logan Mankins conspicuously missing. Tackle 1. Jake Long, Dolphins (108,943) 2. D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Jets (95,675) 3. Matt Light, Patriots (80,270) Comment: Nice representation for the AFC East. Fittingly, the only one missing is Pro Bowler Jason Peters, who unsuccessfully held out for a new contract and has struggled. Defensive end None. Comment: No Richard Seymour? Defensive tackle 3. Marcus Stroud, Bills (80,981) 4. Kris Jenkins, Jets (74,343) Comment: Jenkins deserves a higher ranking, but you can't argue with Albert Haynesworth being first with 206,925 votes. Outside linebacker 1. Joey Porter, Dolphins (151,463) Comment: He's leading the NFL with 13.5 sacks. Inside linebacker 4. Tedy Bruschi, Patriots (49,780) Comment: That rookie Jerod Mayo isn't ahead of Bruschi ought to be a crime. Cornerback None. Comment: Darrelle Revis is being victimized by some big names ahead of him, but the coaches and players will notice. Strong safety 4. Donte Whitner, Bills (19,686) 5. Yeremiah Bell, Dolphins (16,721) Comment: Troy Polamalu is untouchable with 178,764 votes. Free safety 4. Kerry Rhodes, Jets (33,900) Comment: Ed Reed is way out in front with 133,666 votes. Kicker None. Comment: Strange. Stephen Gostkowski leads the AFC in scoring with 91 points. Jay Feely has made several big kicks, but Mike Nugent represents the Jets on the ballot. Punter 4. Brian Moorman, Bills (37,407) Comment: It's close at a position that generates few votes. Kick returner 4. Leon Washington, Jets (43,202) 5. Roscoe Parrish, Bills (34,913) Comment: Darren Sproles has almost twice as many votes as Washington. Special teamer 2. Larry Izzo, Patriots (43,462) 3. Patrick Cobbs, Dolphins (41,895) Comment: Balloting is tight. Izzo is only about 3,500 votes behind the Steelers' Anthony Madison.
in: favre (2nd in afc passer rating (yes, even with all those INT's!!!), 3rd in td's, 1st in completion %) faneca jenkins (should be behind haynesworth, but ahead of rogers and stroud) legit chance: jones (leads afc in yards, td's, 3rd in yards per carry) revis (should be right behind asomugha and maybe finnegan) leon washington (could make the argument for mckelvin, cribbs, royal or sproles, though) mangold have a shot: pace ellis rhodes brick wright only if something crazy happens: cotchery coles barton b. thomas Interesting that the three players that are definitely going are guys signed this year.
