We will have the chance to draft one of the top 5 players in this years draft.

We could get the #1 DE, a position we need to address at some point in the draft - taking Mario Williams would give us our own "Richard Seymour" for years to come.

We could get the #1 LT, there isn't even another left tackle that is close to as good as D'Brick. LT is our greatest need right now. He is a Long Island boy and would anchor our offensive line for years to come. Many scouts said that witout the USC players, D'Brick would be the consensus #1 overall.

We could get the #1 LB, an animal that would immediately give us what most would consider the BEST LB corps in the NFL.

OR we could get the #2 (Young) or #3 (Cutler) QB in the draft... both of them would be selected too early according most analysts (and FANS!!!)

In my opinion there is only ONE way we can screw up this draft and that is by taking a QB (even IF Leinart falls to us). I can't imagine we would reach for any players not mentioned in this thread... but if we did that would open the door for a second way we could screw up!

Bro, this is the Jets. A franchise that could screw up a wet dream.

Seriously, there are going to be a lot of good players around at #4. So if they don't take the one you want, don't say we're cursed for the next decade!

I would be pretty pissed off if we drafted Vernon Davis at 4...on a trade down? Sure...but not at 4

    How could we screw up?

    1. Trade up
    2. Jay Culter
    3. Take a DT at # 4
    4. Take Vernon Davis at # 4
    5. Jimmy Williams in top # 10
    6. Lendale White in top # 10

Actually #1-100 screw ups would be Jay Cutler. #101-200 would be Davis at #4. Then we can go with DT, Williams, and White as you listed.

Trading up would not be awful, depending on the price.

Let count some of them from past NYJ history
    Blair
    Johnny Lam
    Russel Carter
    Byron Thomas
    Roger Vick
    Mike Haight
    Dave Cadigan

    Is that enough for you?

I'm in the minority, but I don't believe drafting Cutler is a screw up at all. In my opinion a screw up would be trading up for Leinart, trading down and missing out on Mario and Cutler, or taking Young or Hawk.

I thought this post would garner some funny responses... I for one believe that Mario, D'Brick or Hawk at 4 would be a good draft. So thats 3 ways we can get it right. If we had the chance to take Leinart and did, I could live with it... depending on whoever else we take.

    Love the wet dream one-liner...

We can't trade up for Leinart. That would be awful. I say Mario at 4 and I'd be thrilled. The wet dream one-liner was an instant classic and should make it into someone's sig pretty soon.

Why would taking a QB be a screw up?

Last time i checked Chad may still be injured.
    Ramsey is unproven.

So tell me again why we shouldnt choose a franchise qb.

I wouldn't mind getting a QB at 4, but if we move up to 2 to get Leinart, then well...let's just say I won't be happy.

i agree, we will obviously be selecting 2 OL in the first few rounds, i think we should take the best skill position player available at 4 or trade down if anyone is considered a reach, then go ahead and adress OL with the 29th and 36th pick

the dropoff wont be as much from d'brick to whoever we chose then. as opposed the dropoff from a skill position player wed be getting in the later rds after taking brick at 4. basically we'd be solidifying every other spot except LT and see what adrian jones can do while we pick up a top notch skill pos player

    Yeah, it is, actually.
I don't know, I don't think she's what would be considered traditionally hot, but something about her makes me dig her a lot.

Don't forget Jeff Lageman. Not a horrible player but not first round talent.
