If the Jets are really going to go on this magical run that's now possible for them, the head coach is going to have to stop playing the percentages. He needs to grow a pair, take some chances and win the game.

Everybody else on the team is coaching and playing their hearts out and then Eric gets his chance, and he muffs it. That 3rd and 2 dive into the line never had a chance and we all knew it. Why even risk the handoff?

I would've lined up 4 wide outs with Washington in the backfield. Play action to Washington and then let him scamper out into a hole, you send Favre back and tell to make a sure read, and step into the throw, or just eat it.

If I'm Mike Westhoff after that play, I'm hobbling my ass down the sideline and smacking Mangini in the shins with my cane.

Eric, everybody is making plays all over the field to help you win the game, stop sabotaging them and yourself with your chickenshit calls.

Fuck the percentages, coach by feel, be in the moment, in the game and coach to win. Please.

Mike Singletary played that same percentage! He got killed for it by the same people that are defending Mangini now, amusingly enough.

well one of the better posts for sure, directing at the coach. I think you are right, I like Eric he has a good mind for the game, he needs to now have the balls to become the coach we all thought we got 3ys ago

gee bit of a different situation my god, one was with a team down 6 on the goal line the other with a team that if it does not get it punts and has to defend 80 yds of field with a 7point lead, the defense makes on big play there game over, come on situations could not be further apart. Wow you guys just want to bash period

I still don't understand why the Jets didn't just put their heads down and start grinding in the first quarter. When you have a weaker team across the line from you it's hammer time.

They really went away from running ball when they got up 24-6. Too much shotgun. The Pats run D was good but Jones was getting his yards.

At some point this year the team will have to win despite their coach! He installed his prevent Defense and offense in a game that we should have won 50-17!

Very, very well said. We get the 1st down and the game is iver. Put the players in a position to win. Tell Brett if you have a clear shot take it, if not eat it.

I liked the call to run it on 3rd and 2. It was smart. That forced them to drive the length of the field and score a TD with about a minute left and no timeouts.

    Play some fucking defense.

TJ was slicing and dicing the N.E defense.I thought for sure the NYJETS could continue running the ball.TJ has really stepped up up his level of play.

And if Mangini calls that play and Favre throws a pick 6 then you would be pissed that he didn't run the ball!

The defense was obviously tired from being on the field way too long.Prior to halftime was a turning point when the NYJETS couldnt get a 1st down and allowed N.E to score right before the half.

I have to imagine this is what heaven is like for Jets fans.

Win the biggest game of the decade, and still be complaining.

    Ah the bliss

I don't give a shit if they're tired. Man up and prevent them from driving the friggen length of the field in just over a minute with no timeouts and scoring a TD.

It was the right decision IMO.

Totally agree!!!!The only problem I had was the final play when Law didn't play Moss at the line and give him a bump. If he does it I don't think there's anyway possible he makes that play

They were in the prevent, a special type of prevent that we use that makes everything really easy. I don't know why we didn't just go into the regular cover 2, it's like the prevent except it actually wastes time.

GSour I agree with you. Spreading the field was something i expected on 3rd and 2. In fact, we had the most success when we were unpredictable like that. Spreading the field gives us the option of deciding the best way to get the 1st down or touchdown. Running the ball made perfect sense, but i would hve preferred to run the ball against DB's rather than LB's. I would also have loved to see Washington and Thomas both in the backfield [Shotgun] after we audibled out of a 4 wr Shotgun set. Then the issues for NE's defense becomes pass? run right? run left? run up the middle? As opposed to stacking the line and trying to overpower NE. Not quite the Widlcat, but still enough to give NE something to think about.

It's really about keeping NE from stacking all 11 in the same 12 by 12 foot box...it's simple, logical strategy. INstead of dictating to their defense, Mangini called a play that played to their strength.

It's a lesson that must be learned now, because we may not be so lucky next time.

    Exactly.

And if we line up four wide with Leon in the backfield...like we had many times all game...and that doesn't work...the coaching staff is still uncreative, not trying, and should have tried to run it because the O-line was the strength of the team or Jones was doing well or blah blah blah. It's a never ending, hindsight based complaint cycle...

Either way this coaching staff isn't going to get any credit until we do it big. And if you've been paying attention, by score or by statement, our victories are getting bigger.

Next is the Titans...and really how many of us are shit our pants scared of the Titans? This team can beat them.
