Interesting with all our struggles offensively we are still #1 in the AFC in terms of putting points on the board, as the season goes on and our offense continues to gel it should be a fun ride.

that it is pretty sweet. even when the team was struggling they were putting up decent point totals. now a bad offensive day still results in 20 or so points. the last few years a bad day resulted in maybe 10 points.

no matter what happens this team has been fun to watch all year. (except the oakland game that was disgusting)

It's a good thing too, because we've also given up among the most points as well. But it's nice to know we can score, and score often.

    How do you figure that?

We're 14th overall in points allowed. And what, 18 of those points were Brett Favre pick-sixes, right?

Last time I checked, we were around 13th. Yesterday's game probably moved us up a bit.

Yes, but of the teams that matter (NE, Tenn, Mia, Balt, Buff, Indy, Pitt, Jax) look where we stand. I think only Indy has given up more points than us.

Seriously, I'm not criticizing. I'm happy where this team is heading and I think most of the points we've given up came at the beginning of the year (48 to SD and 35 to Ariz). The defense is coming together and I don't think we'll see them give up those kinds of numbers to anyone else this year.

For the record, our defense is now 10th overall in the league. Giving up 299.9 yds/game. We are now 5th against the run (after the Bears stiffled the Ravens runninig game), and we are 21st against the pass (see Dwight Lowery). I realize this thread is about our offense, but just throwing out some updated stats going into week 11.

forget the points and yards allowed for the defense - those numbers are always skewed.....

instead look at the rush D - specifically on first down, sacks, turnovers, 3rd down conversions, YPP, and penalties that result in a first down.

i would make a big bet that these stats are light years ahead of what they have been during the last several years - even under the cover 2 guru edwards

I said this before and I say it again: People always complain about the turnovers from favre, but seem to ignore the fact that he puts points on the board. I mentioned this even prior to the last 2 weeks. A bad day for favre means 2 or 3 turnovers with 20+ on the board.

Last two weeks the run game was just purely dominating, hence no need for Favre to do much. Next two weeks, I could EASILY see this as where the Brett Favre factor comes into play for this offense. NE and Tenn have good defenses (great, in terms of Tenn) and Favre is going to have to wing it more I suspect to pull out wins.

These next two weeks are the srot of Games that the trade for Favre was made for. The talent on the team got the jets to be in position to be tied for the division - Next two weeks the Favre factor may finally come into to play to get over the hump.

Defense is 10th in yards. Second in sacks to Pitt (34 to 31). First in forced fumbles with 13 (tied with the Cards). Tied for 10th in Picks with 9 (several teams).

Our Offense is benefiting in a big way by getting great starting feild positon due to turnoveres and a great return game, Thank you Leon Washington!

Thomas Jones is also the leading AFC rusher and has 8 total TDs.

    This cannot be ignored.

Joones looked great yesterday. Actually making good cut backs and getting to the outside when he had to. If he keeps this type of running up we will have a very dangerous offense.

Makes you realize just how poor our O-line was before. It's the same Thomas Jones we had last year (1 TD) and averaging less than 3 YPC. Now he's what, about 4.5 YPC right?

This O-line is really starting to gell now. D-line too.

Gotta agree. Nice to dominate someone like the Rams. Now the big test on thursday. Was this a one game happening or are we really stepping to a new level on the O-line and D-line. Time will tell and I can't wait for thursday.

well, when 3/5ths of that OL have starters that can't get a contract with other teams, no one can do well. And yet Jones still got 1100 yards on the ground. He has kept his feet moving in the past couple of weeks, which was one of his weaknesses earlier in the season... he actually is getting better as an RB... that is scary.

The aquisition of Tony Richardson cannot be ignored either. It's all of the above...

    1) Addition of Faneca and Woody, with Ferguson and Mangold improving and all of them hitting their stride and gelling. "Chemistry."

    2) Addition of Tony Richardson as a blocker.

    3) Greater usage of Leon Washington

    4) Can't leave Dustin Keller out of the equation as another distraction.

All of this has resulted in a HUGE improvement which all helps the running game. Thomas is really pumped now, now that he's got a legit line and hole-blowing FB to run behind. This is a RBs dream.

thats the one thing thats skewers the stat, but its good to know that this team can score 40+ pts on bad defenses.

I think instead of 28 pts a game a more realistic number would be around 23, which is still enough to win against any team.
