Yeah, I know we completely embarrassed the Rams and finally looked like a complete team from beginning to end. But there's always something to complain about - that's what this message board is all about. Favre threw a few utter stinkers like he always does. Yeah, that's what you get with Favre but he still scares the crap out of me. I wouldn't say they won despite him today but he wasn't a huge part of the victory either. I'm cautiously optimistic about how he will fare against the Pats next week. Another week and another awful performance from Bowens. Yuck. There are few things more painful than watching Mangold slump off the field. Without him, we clearly are in big, big trouble. Here's hoping he can stay on the field as long as the Jets are fighting for a Superbowl bid. On the bright side, Drew Coleman was rightfully benched for today's game. But neither Poteat nor Lowery looked very sharp today. I'm not trying to be a darksider. There were many amazing individual performances today but there's always room for improvement. Anything else you guys saw today that could have been better?
THe only thing I could complain about is we didn't rest the starters soon enough. After we lost the shutout, they would have all been sitting.
We could say the Rams are absolutely terrible so the win meant nothing. Now if the Jets beat New England and Tennessee they're on to something. Oh, and that Brett threw two more passes right at the defense that should have been picked.
Thomas Jones was awesome today. Favre made two atrocious passes today again that would have easily been interceptions against most secondaries. He needs to clean up because the good ones will make him pay. Heck, the mediocre ones can make him pay too (Chiefs). The Jets might get into the playoffs with him playing as crappy as he is thanks to a solid run game and an emerging defense but they need better QB play. He made some nice throws today though but the mistakes must go.
Personally, I am pretty disappointed we didn't score another TD. I mean, everyone knows the difference between 47 and 54 is HUGE! If we cant score 54 points against the Rams then we are NOT a playoff team. Everyone knows that. (And that FG we gave up - dont even get me started on that)
I'd like to see some more play actions like the one to Keller. I think the threat of Favre throwing down field is one of the reasons for our success in the running game. Favre did throw a couple up there, but the receivers had just as much of a shot at them as the defenders did, the defenders just played the balls much better. I didn't see much out of the WRs today. I'd still like to see Clowney given a shot. Overall though, I thought we got solid games out of Jones (game MVP), Favre (118 passer rating), Feely, and the defense with their turnovers. The defense did bend some, but they made up for it with their turnovers.
I would have liked to see more backups in. Thats it. Although I did see spencer in at one point. Even saying that this game means nothing isn't true. Average teams beat a shitty team like this by 10, good ones by 20 and great teams by 35... the Jets beat them by 43.
This "Favre had a couple of bad throws" thing might get old. There isn't one QB in the NFL who doesn't get away with one or two throws every week. It's football. It's what happens. I'd complain that Clemens didn't throw it once, but thats cause I need to know he still has a pulse.
i was a bit disappointed when we ran the ball on 3rd and goal from the 3. very tough to pick up. also disappointed that dustin keller couldnt barely make a block on said play. it sure as heck was nice to have one of those you can forget about it at halftime games though!!!! those dont come too often! would have liked to see the 3rd string qb in the fourth quarter. just to take some snaps in a real game. (i believe ratliff was active today? let me know if he wasnt then this comment is pointless) overall very good game, definitely better than the other game in which we got turnovers and built a big lead against arizona. this game was done DONE DONE at halftime. granted arizona is a bit better of a team than st louis at this point.
Disappointed to not see Clowney out there today catching TD passes. Other than that, we look good in all phases. Having Abram Elam in there (and not Eric Smith) has made a huge difference. Also, I like that Jay Feely had a couple of tackles today. That made me happy. P.S. Who is #75, "Mike DeVito"? Where did he come from and why is he on the team?
DeVito was on the team last year too. I think he's our only backup DE and has been pretty good on ST and when he plays defense (which has been a decent amount of time) from what I've seen.
