Take a look at this stat-line:

W-L PF PA HOME ROAD DIV CONF
    NYJ 6-3 255 190 4-1 2-2 2-1 4-3
    NWE 6-3 188 160 4-1 2-2 2-1 4-3

And right now the pats have a one game lead on us in the tie-breaker. This is where we need to distinguish ourselves and take the division lead for us and us alone. A loss here would be a major setback and would really hurt our chances of making the playoffs especially with the colts and ravens making moves and miami having the easiest schedule left in the NFL.

I have a lot of confidence in this team right now, but unless we can show that we can compete with the upper tier of teams in this league, destroying the rams does not mean all that much.

baltimore is gonna fade with the schedule they have left...

jets lose this game the pats will have basically a 2 game lead with 6 games left..

if jets win and even if they lose the net week at tennesee they will still have control of the division..

It's a MUST WIN if we want to win the division and move on to bigger and better things.

You said it. Rolling over bad teams is great and all, but I want to beat a good one. A win versus the Pats is huge at this point.

There are many reasons why this game is important.

#1 to me: DE-THROWNING The Bradyless Patriots, Putting the Jets' on the map as the team to beat in the AFC East.

The Jets are the better team overall, no doubt about it. Can they prove it Thursday though?

We're also in contention for the #2 in the AFC with the Steelers losing.

    AFC
    1. Tenn 9-0
    2. Pit 6-3
    3. NE 6-3
    4. Den 5-4
    5. Balt 6-3
    6. NYJ 6-3

We don't own any major tiebreakers so we would have to win by 1 rather than tie. So a win vs. NE will be huge in any playoff tiebreakers as we would eliminate the big tiebreaker preventing us from winning the division and possibly #2.

I thought Buffalo was a pretty big game and we came out on top in that one, still its a HUGE game.

Looking at the schedule before the season started, if you asked me to pick one game that the Jets would definitely win, it would be next week's game against the Pats. If they somehow pull this one out, I will be ecstatic.

It would probably have been the LAST game i would have picked for us to win looking at it from before the season.. a short week away game against what would have been the best team in the league?

the GREATEST thing about us taking out St. Louis in such a fashion is we really didn't have to "grind it out" and get our players tired, banged-up, etc. We will be in better shape for the short week because of the ease with which we won, that is for sure. Besides that, I'm sure the coaching staff implemented a lot of game plan for next week already given the the lack of practice time.

I also believe that the reason Keller had a break out game today was 2-fold:

    1. Our receivers were probably getting more attention and it played into the weaknesses of the Rams, so it made sense from a gameplan perspective.

    2. It was part of the plan to get him noticed, so that the Pats would have to pay more attention to him next week, helping to create opportunities elsewhere. I would not be surprised if he has a very limited game next week in terms of targets.

Call me crazy but getting the 5th spot in the AFC may not be the worst thing in the world as you get to face possibly an awful defense in Denver in round 1 as opposed to getting the 3rd seed and seeing a NE/IND type of team.

And I agree with the person who said Baltimore should fade, Baltimore in their final 7 games 4 of them are vs the NFC East which is the toughest division in football. Then they get PIT again, so 5 toughies for BAL.

Right - I realize I wasn't clear. I meant, if I could pick one game that the Jets would win - like I could make them win. You get it . . .

Good point on Balt. Didnt realize.. they will DEFINITELY fade if they have to play the NFC East.

That leaves Pit by itself and us battling with the colts and Pats for either the division or a wildcard.

that raiders game seems pretty important now, if we had won we would be one game ahead of NE. Oh well, I think we'll be fine though, we're on a roll and I think we can continue this roll right on to Tennessee and beat them.

you are right.. the raider game WAS important, but not for that reason. I think the raiders and chiefs games really sparked something with this team and they said, never again.

This is probably the only year in which we will be able to win the division UNLESS Brady can not come back from his bad injury.

Plus we have Favre now. Next year whoever we have is not going to be able to lead us to the SB. I mean who could we get that would do that?
